Zendee: YouTube Discovery & Emerging Talent

I first heard Zendee sing live during the Wilson Phillips concert at the MOA Arena last month and was impressed at her voice. It's great to discover more and more talented Filipinos we can be proud of ...

Press Release:

Zendee Rose Tenerefe, 21 years old, hailing from General Santos, Philippines is the newest member of the Warner Music Philippines Domestic Artist Roster.

Nursing a broken heart after getting eliminated from a popular talent show, not even reaching the televised rounds, Zendee Rose Tenerefe, aka Zendee, decided to stay in Manila instead of going back home to General Santos City, hometown of boxing hero Manny Pacquiao who incidentally, sponsored her college education.

She wanted to make it big in Manila so that her hometown could be proud of her. But being 21 and not knowing anyone in the music and showbiz industries, she did what she knew best – she just sang. To be specific, she sang at any and every videoke kiosk she would see in malls, “performing” for free to anyone who would listen.

It was when Yahoo! Philippines spotted the post of video blogger Yuan Juan, who captured one of her performances without her knowing it, that things went viral. Yuan Juan’s (youngjay0918) YouTube video, “And I am Telling You Random Girl SM Megamall”, showed Zendee impressively belting out the Jennifer Holiday classic, doing all this while clad in shorts and a red backpack, gathered 1 Million views almost overnight, and the views just kept on coming.

It generated a lot of interest from the people of Warner Music Philippines, who quickly came to visit Zendee at her makeshift home in the Mandaluyong Fire station. Then and there, after hearing her powerful voice and seeing her bubbly personality, she was signed for a record deal and full artist management. Since then, Zendee has been asked to appear on international shows in Finland and Japan, called out on Twitter by Carson Daly of The Voice to come to the show, featured by Ryan Seacrest on his website, and also been invited to be a regular mainstay on some local noontime shows. A big highlight of her career was her guesting and performance on The Ellen DeGeneres show last October 26, 2012, where Zendee showed the world her talent which impressed Ellen and the live audience prompting them to give a rousing standing ovation to Zendee’s rendition of “And I am Telling You” of Jennifer Holiday, the same song in her viral video.

Presently, Zendee is set to release a full album with Warner Music Philippines, with her sound more on the Pop and Soul side of music. The talent is there with her wide range, big voice and presence, and fans can only expect bigger and better things to come from Zendee.
