Press Release:

Adventure Time is one of the TV network’s most popular and engaging programs suited for active grade school children and the young at heart. The partnership seeks to encourage physical and mental engagement among kids in a fun and wholesome way.

The adventure revolves around mystery challenges that test the children’s creativity, imagination, decision making, and agility. Dressed up as Adventure Time’s character Finn, the kids are tasked to save the main character, Jake, who is trapped in a mysterious place called “Ooo”. The land of Ooo is the main setting of Adventure Time where Finn, along with his friends and foes, live. The kids are given six missions to complete, each one filled with exciting missions and challenges guaranteed to stimulate kids’ mental and physical toughness.

Participating kids have been pre-selected to join this highly interactive game, with Bonakid Choco Boost drink as an important component to help them with the bonus mission en route to the finish. This involves shooting balls into holes that represent the correct answers to three given questions about nutrients found in Bonakid Choco Boost: calcium, iron, and zinc. This task alone demonstrates the participants’ mental alertness and good physical coordination, with emphasis on the three nutrients that help support the nutritional growth and development needs of children 7 years and older.

The fun and laughter go beyond the games, with some of the participants animatedly articulating their delight during one leg of the tour. The adventure games raised the kids’ spirits so much that one participant described Bonakid Choco Boost as “life-changing”. There were even some who, obviously stimulated by their enthusiasm after a drink, asked where they can buy the milk and how much it costs.

Packed with energy and nutrients, Bonakid Choco Boost promises to inject life and excitement to play and adventure. This partnership with Cartoon Network is a testimony to that claim, bringing children’s favorite cartoons to life for an energizing and fun activity.

Skin vs. Food: Skin Food Fit for Living

Press Release:

A battle ensues every day. It’s not between countries or between people. It’s not even between neighbors or family. The battle is closer to home as our skins are bombarded with food that not only causes unwanted fat but also unhealthy skin.

The skin protects the body from the world’s dangers. It is the first to face damages that everything around us can do. But when the dangers are inside, the skin will ultimately suffer. It shows from acne and the horrible marks it leaves. An unhealthy lifestyle will inevitably show on our skins.

Photo borrowed from quantumscale.com
Food not only nourishes the body – it keeps it healthy and it provides the necessary tools to make it fit for living. With the constant improvements in the science of food making, food becomes easier to prepare but at an inconsequential price. The nutrients are depleted and the fat and sugar are at an all-time high. That burger you had for lunch could be beginning to show on your skin.

That is why people in our generation suffer most from the constant onslaught of acne. They are more prone because the food that they devour isn’t conducive to a healthy lifestyle. Not only are the food we eat are becoming more cringe-worthy by the minute, our skins suffer the horrible consequences.

Lifestyles are not what they used to be.  Before instant food and extra conservatives, people lived naturally. Foods that they consumed were more likely grown on the farm manually, which contributes to their healthy lifestyles. Food was naturally made. No chemicals were used to grow whatever they consumed.

photo borrowed from mommywrites.blogspot.com
It’s no wonder that our grandparents’ black and white and even sepia photos showed clear healthy skins! Imagine your skin being as regal as your grandmother’s when she was your age.

Healthy eating naturally equals clear healthy skins and it will inevitably show. Show the world that healthy eating truly contributes to the equation. Try eating only healthy foods for a week. Drink only water and avoid colored and concentrated drinks. Increase fiber intake and choose “superpower” food like dark chocolate, blueberries, spinach, salmon, and more.

Prove to the world that a healthy lifestyle is the one way to get clear healthy skin. Religiously keep a food diary. Share what you eat. Be creative! Use picture collages and video logs as you rediscover the power of healthy food on making and keeping skin clear and beautiful.

Using the right skin care products like Papulex™, which helps in fighting the three root causes of acne, will definitely keep the skin clear and healthy. Papulex™ is made with three active ingredients (EU-patented ABA technology, Nicotinamide and Zinc PCA) that are clinically proven to address the root causes of acne. It helps you manage acne to keep you confident so that you can be a little more positive every day.

Being careful of what you eat is one of the simplest ways of caring for our skins. The truth of proper skin care is available right at your fingertips. With Papulex™, seek the truth behind proper skin care amidst the cluttered food choices available in the world. Papulex™ leads the way in encouraging people to become Truth Seekers.

Food shows the life we’re living – healthy or not. Food is not our skins’ enemy. It’s the choices we make that matters. Is the food you’re eating fit for living? Prove to the world that you truly are living a healthy lifestyle with your skin. Find out for yourself what’s real and what’s not. Be a Truth Seeker.

Jude Law is the Wicked Bogeyman Pitch in ‘Rise of the Guardians’

Press Release:

Jude Law is considered one of Britain’s finest actors, with a wealth and variety of film and theater performances to his credit.

Law will star opposite Keira Knightley in Joe Wright’s “Anna Karenina.” Last year, he reunited with Guy Ritchie and Robert Downey Jr., on “Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows,” reprising his role from the global boxoffice success “Sherlock Holmes”. In his new animation film in DreamWorks Animations he plays evil entity known as Pitch.

“The Guardians represent hope, joy, wonder and dreams,” producer Christina Steinberg notes. “If Pitch is able to take them out, they will literally cease to exist. The attributes they represent would be gone from the world and fear would reign.”

The way Pitch attempts to do that is by corrupting one of the Guardians’ tools. “He has a huge amount resentment for being shoved under the beds for hundreds of years,” says actor Jude Law, who gives voice to Pitch. “He figures out a way to take the Sandman’s dream sand – the positive, pure golden sand that gives everyone happy dreams – and twist it into nightmares (which take the form of amorphous black stallions subject to Pitch’s command), creating fear within children.”

And by design, the manner in which he operates is quite compelling, director Peter Ramsey says.

“We thought a lot about the way fear works in the real world, and the logic behind it.  If you think, ‘I want to go outside, but there are some clouds in the sky and that means it might rain. If it rains, I might get a cold. If I get a cold…’ Pretty soon you’re not going outside and you’re missing all the best stuff in life because you let your fear snowball into something unhealthy. Fear shuts down your world.  So we knew that we wanted a character that was alluring and could falsely convince you that being afraid was the only thing that made sense.”

Steinberg agrees. “These iconic characters needed a worthy opponent. Peter, Bill Joyce, David Lindsay-Abaire and I spent a lot of time talking about our favorite villains in past movies. We all loved the feeling we had watching ‘The Wizard of Oz’ when we hid behind our bedroom doors, peeking our heads out to watch the Wicked Witch of the West. She was scary, but exciting and charismatic at the same time. We wanted to bring that dynamic to Pitch as well. So, he’s not a terrifying, moustache twirling villain. He has a lot of personality. He’s wicked, funny and smart.”

Lindsay-Abaire adds, “There’s a human side to Pitch, as well.  Like our hero, Jack Frost, Pitch is a lonely soul who simply wants to be believed in.  Unfortunately, he thinks the way to make that happen is through fear and intimidation.”

“When Jude Law’s name came up for the role, everybody’s bells just went off,” Ramsey says. “We listened to his voice in combination with some animated tests and we knew we had the right casting. Pitch moves through shadows. He moves on the edges of what you can see. Jude’s voice has this beautiful quality to it – we call it ‘the velvet touch of Pitch’ – and you just want to listen to it forever even when it’s telling you these terrible things.

“Pitch’s story is pretty compelling,” Ramsey continues. “He’s a guy who’s been on the bottom for a long time and who has now found a way to strike back and take power for himself. Jude has been able to flesh out the nuances of this character’s many layers. It’s a magnificent thing to listen to – the hair literally stands up on the back of your neck.”

“The voice casting was, no pun intended, pitch perfect,” executive producer Guillermo del Toro says. “Jude brings fragility, refinement, intelligence and cunning – a lot of stuff that is beyond the lines – to his character. There’s a sense of isolation and loneliness in Pitch that is all Jude’s doing.”

Rise of The Guardians’ is released and distributed by United Intl. Pictures through Solar Entertainment Corp.

Nurture Versus Nature: Are You Up To The Challenge?

Press Release:

Humans are holistically gifted with a set of genes that is perfect for the life that they are living. But with the ever changing tides of the environment, it is safe to claim that life as we know it is no longer what it used to be.

Our bodies are built to adapt to the constant inimitable changes. Our skins being our bodies’ protection from the world is the most exposed to these changes.

Our genes and our environment play a big role in the changes that our skins undergo. Our parents may have had clear skin when they were our age, but we may not share that same condition especially now in a fast-food and pollution driven environment. Not to mention the effect of our present environment on our skin as we age.

photo borrowed from gnet.org
The challenge is in finding the balance between nurture and nature – genetics and environment – when we consider skin care.

It is not that acne is inheritable. It is in the likelihood that our genes say that our skin especially on our faces is prone to acne occurrence.

Our genes dictate the way our bodies will be the moment we are born. Our genes decide if we are tall or short, black or brown eyed and dark or light skin. As Filipinos, we are of course given the sun-kissed skin that many morenas have today.

With the constant influx of people since the years when our parents were our age, the way we care for our skins have changed. Gone are the days when people no longer have to worry about a zit appearing after a night-out at the local bar or a fun excursion to the farthest corners of the country. Our generation simply cannot afford to be as complacent with skin care with the change in lifestyle.

It seems that this generation enjoys more freedom in their lifestyles. From travel to eating and family to friends, the people of today are more prone to the dangers of society so different from what our parents lived in.

Luckily, modern medicine has made profound advancements in skin care. Many remedies and products have been made as the times passed that can help alleviate the environment’s dire effects on skin.

A person who knows his or her family history and balances it out with knowledge on how to deal with his or her current environment has the advantage of maintaining clear and healthy skin.

Genetics may not always be on our side but we can always control and remedy this by maintaining a healthy environment, living a healthy lifestyle, eating right and, of course, choosing the right skin care products like Papulex™.

Papulex™ is specially formulated to address three root causes of acne: bacterial colonization, inflammation of the affected area and excess sebum or facial oil. It contain three active ingredients (EU-patented ABA technology, Nicotinamide and Zinc PCA) that are clinically proven to address the root causes of acne. It helps you manage acne to keep you confident so that you can be a little more positive every day.

Learn more about your genes. Interview your family members to learn more about their skin history and experience with acne. Your interviews can come in the form of pictures coupled with captions, videos, or a dialogue. Let loose and have fun with it.

Have you been misled by thinking that acne is simply in your genes? Many skin care products may leave you on your own in caring for your skin, which may lead to dire consequences. Papulex™, however, will lead the way by encouraging people to become Truth Seekers. With Papulex™, seek the truth on how to keep your skin clear and healthy despite what your genes dictates.

The challenge of nurture versus nature has been called. The prize is clear healthy skin. Are you up to challenge?

Faculty Immersion Program by Local Software Company Hopes to Address Industry-Academe Gap

Press Release:

A study conducted by the Philippine Software Industry Association (PSIA) states that the Philippines needs 10,000 IT professionals in 2013 to meet the demand of software engineers in the country. From 2006-2011, the industry’s annual revenue growth was pegged at 27 percent, a number that can be sustained if our educational institutions can produce thousands of skilled graduates every year.

There are a number of factors however that hinder the country from producing skilled workers. One of the stark realities the Philippine software industry faces is the disconnect between the academe and the private sector.

Calen Legaspi, an executive of local software firm Orange & Bronze Software Labs (O&B), believes that the private sector has a responsibility to the local IT community. “Corporations like ours have a huge stake in developing the skills of the youth. In our case, we devote some of our resources to community programs aimed to enhance and improve the knowledge of our future IT professionals.”

O&B developed a faculty immersion program where select computer science professors attend an IT boot camp for free to learn about Java software development. This 8-week program aims to expose teachers to the inner workings of a software company.

Alquine Taculin, the Chair of the Computer Science Department at the Mindanao State University - Iligan Institute of Technology (MSU-IIT), is a graduate of O&B’s Faculty Immersion Program. “When I heard about the program, I eagerly applied for it,” said Taculin. “Teaching in MSU-IIT was my first job. I have never worked in any other institution since I graduated from college.”

Legaspi explained that participants are exposed to various developer teams, undergo rigorous code training, do hands-on development work, as well as assimilate themselves into the corporate culture. The program is meant to impact these professors’ effectivity in educating and preparing students on what to expect in the “real world” after graduation.

Alquine Taculin
Taculin immediately saw the benefit of being trained by software professionals in an office setting. “I have learned that what we teach in school is quite the opposite of what is practiced in the industry - it is evident that teachers like me lack first-hand experiences.”

Legaspi said that O&B will continue to work with the academe in a bid to ensure that the level of instruction in our universities is industry-relevant. “The demand for IT knowledge workers is growing, we need to help each other to produce a steady supply of intelligent and skilled staff. This effort aligns with O&B’s vision of making the Philippines a center of tech excellence - if we support the Philippine academe, then we also support more people able to get gainful tech jobs, who will support businesses that will provide more jobs for others.”

Taculin is even more encouraged to pass on his new knowledge to his students in Mindanao. “Even if I had taken advanced studies prior to the immersion program, I knew I had so much to learn. And I did. The program exposed me to the industry best practices, which I will persistently pass on to my students.”
