Quarantine Diary: We are not in the same boat

Certain words and phrases mean different things to different people depending on context, points of view, and circumstances. In a previous post, I shared a write-up that talked about both the rich and the poor being in the same boat. I get what the author meant. However, somebody else has a different perspective of that phrase and also raised valid points ...

photo taken August 2019 in Redondo Beach, California

"We're all riding the same storm, but ...

WE ARE NOT IN THE SAME BOAT.

I heard that we are all in the same boat, but it's not like that. We are in the same storm, but not in the same boat. Your ship could be shipwrecked and mine might not be. Or vice versa.

For some, quarantine is optimal. A moment of reflection, of re-connection, easy in flip flops, with a cocktail or coffee. For others, this is a desperate financial & family crisis.

For some that live alone they're facing endless loneliness. While for others it is peace, rest & time with their mother, father, sons & daughters.

With the $600 weekly increase in unemployment some are bringing in more money to their households than they were working. Others are working more hours for less money due to pay cuts or loss in sales.

Some families of 4 just received $3400 from the stimulus while other families of 4 saw $0.

Some were concerned about getting a certain candy for Easter while others were concerned if there would be enough bread, milk and eggs for the weekend.

Some want to go back to work because they don't qualify for unemployment and are running out of money. Others want to kill those who break the quarantine.

Some are home spending 2-3 hours/day helping their child with online schooling while others are spending 2-3 hours/day to educate their children on top of a 10-12 hour workday.

Some have experienced the near death of the virus, some have already lost someone from it and some are not sure if their loved ones are going to make it. Others don't believe this is a big deal.

Some have faith in God and expect miracles during this 2020. Others say the worst is yet to come.
So, friends, we are not in the same boat. We are going through a time when our perceptions and needs are completely different.

Each of us will emerge, in our own way, from this storm. It is very important to see beyond what is seen at first glance. Not just looking, actually seeing.

We are all on different ships during this storm experiencing a very different journey.

Realize that and be kind."

Quarantine Diary: Not everything is cancelled

I'm not sure if I'll still be able to visit the cherry blossoms at Schabarum Regional Park this year but I'm comforted by the fact that ...

photo taken in Spring of 2019

NOT EVERYTHING IS CANCELLED!

sunshine is not cancelled
spring is not cancelled
love is not cancelled
relationships are not cancelled
reading is not cancelled
naps are not cancelled
devotion is not cancelled
music is not cancelled
dancing is not cancelled
imagination is not cancelled
kindness is not cancelled
conversations are not cancelled
hope is not cancelled

Sharing the write-up above from a post I saw on Facebook (#ctto) to remind us all that there are still so many things to be thankful for while we look forward to doing stuff we were all used to before the pandemic happened.

Meanwhile, please keep safe and stay home as much as possible, everyone! 🙏

Quarantine Diary: Back to the Basics

Starting today, while we are all dealing with the COVID-19 pandemic, I'll try to post encouraging stuff that may at least provide inspiration and encouragement during these trying times.

Sharing the reflection below that some of my Facebook friends were posting on their walls ... Thank you to whoever originally wrote this. I tweaked it a bit though by changing or adding a few words to what I felt were more appropriate. Stay safe, everybody!

Los Angeles skyline as seen from Griffith Observatory grounds
I don't know if you agree, but something invisible came and put everything in its place.

Suddenly the gasoline prices went down, pollution was lesser, people started to have more time - so much time that they do not know what to do with it - parents are spending time with their kids as a family, work is no longer a priority, or traveling, or social life either.

Suddenly we silently see within ourselves and understand the value of the words "solidarity," "love," "strength," "empathy," and "faith".

In an instant, we realize that we are all in the same boat -- rich and poor. And that the supermarket shelves are empty while the hospitals are full.

New cars and old cars also remain in garages, simply because only a few are genuinely required to go out.

It's refreshing to see almost empty streets, less pollution, clean air. The land is also given time to breathe.

Humans have returned to our origins, realizing that with or without money, the important thing is to survive.

Today, health is the main thing, even in spite of wanting to have or possessing various stuff.

As fear invaded most of us (except the hard headed and greedy ones), it took just days for the universe to establish the social equality that seemed to be impossible.

It took this crisis to happen for many to finally realize how vulnerable we are as human beings and how short life really is.

Nature is forcing us to clean up the mess made by ourselves.

Our overthrown gods:
-Money
-Sports
-Fame
-Politics

What the coronavirus is teaching us:
- Our best protection: GOD
- Our best refuge: HOME
- Our best company: FAMILY
- Our real time: TODAY
- Nature's call: PAUSE
- Its message: WAIT, RESPECT

We are not gods, we are not kings, we do not have the power to control everything.

Instead, we are part of a whole, fragile, brittle, and vulnerable something.

Part of a whole something that we wanted to dominate & yet today is telling us to:

Stop, breathe, respect.
Go back to the basics, to the essentials, so that the peace of your soul can guide you towards what you are: a CREATION.

What You Need to Know About Excessive Sweating and How to Treat it at Home

Did you know? Hyperhidrosis is often referred to as a “silent handicap” because sufferers, who experience excessive sweating, rarely talk about it to health professionals or their loved ones. In fact, many do not even know it is a medical condition or that there is a word for it!

Does excessive sweating negatively impact your lifestyle?
• Hyperhidrosis is a common medical condition characterized by excessive sweating affecting up to 4.8% of the global population.

• Studies show that hyperhidrosis has a severe impact on the quality of life of its sufferer, and can have negative impacts on their social life, general wellbeing, and mental health.

Are you always worried about shaking hands with other people?
• The areas most commonly affected by hyperhidrosis are the hands, feet, and underarms, but can also include other areas on the body, including the face/head, and back.

• Its impacts can even be greater than other dermatological conditions, such as severe acne or psoriasis.

Do you suffer from excessively sweaty feet?
• There is no cure for hyperhidrosis, but highly effective treatment through iontophoresis is available.

Studies show that the success rates of iontophoresis devices can reach 93%, 98.5% and even 100% of patients treated for hyperhidrosis. Iontophoresis has been used to treat hyperhidrosis since the 1940s. It is often recommended for those who have not had any results with other treatments, as well as those who require stronger treatment.

Conveniently treat hyperhidrosis at home with Dermadry!
Dermadry is a tap-water iontophoresis machine that treats different levels of hyperhidrosis ranging from mild to severe. Setup can be done within a few minutes. You just need access to a plug and some tap water. This solution works by directing a small current through the skin, neutralizing the connections between the sweat nerves and sweat glands. Dermadry is suitable for most people over the age of 13.

Get rid of sweaty underarms with a Dermadry home treatment!
From clinical trials and studies, it was found that 92.9% of patients saw results after two weeks of iontophoresis treatments, 88.9% of patients had positive results, and a majority of the patients found the maintenance program compatible with their lifestyle. Additionally, quality of life improved in 78.6% of patients after 2 weeks.

Dermadry is dermatologist-recommended and has a Medical Device License from Health Canada. The company’s quality system is certified by Intertek for compliance with ISO 13485

If you believe in having PASMA, watch this to see how it can actually be a medical condition!

Dermadry products are sold in their website, as well as eBay and Amazon in certain countries. They offer free express shipping worldwide. If you’re not sure if it’s right for you, Dermadry also offers a 60-day money back guarantee so that you can purchase with confidence.

Have Fun in the Sun But Be Kind to Your Skin—The Sun Patrol is Watching!

Protect your skin this summer with one of the most effective sun products in the market! Click here to read some of my past reviews about Kojie San ...

Press Release:

The summer heat is on full effect! Time to get out there, get that golden tan in your most stunning summer threads, and sit back with a nice cold refreshing beverage in hand. Pretty sight, isn't it?

However, while the sun, sea, sand, and breeze collectively paint an amazing imagery of summer, one could also imagine how these elements can damage the skin when exposed without protection.

Have you ever stepped outdoors without any sun protection? You'd be surprised a lot of people are guilty of this. While we all dread the signs of aging, most of us don't make an effort to be kind to our skin.

Some might say they actually protect their skin by using sunblock. But probably the important question to ask is, are you doing enough and are you doing it right?

Have you ever gone out of the house without an SPF of at least 30? Do you apply sun protection only on your face and neglect the other exposed parts of your body? Do you forget to reapply sunscreen every two hours? Do you apply less than a pea- sized amount of sunblock on your face?

If you answered YES to these, then you are committing serious violations against your skin.

Better be on the lookout then because The Kojie•san Sunblock Sun Patrol is watching to see if you commit more skin care violations and they could make a Citizen’s Arrest! Before they get to you though, you've got to make sure you know a couple of things.

A variety of factors can cause damage to your skin but the biggest culprit is sun exposure! The sun’s ultraviolet rays break down collagen and elastin, making the skin rough and uneven. These rays also affect the melanocytes, which have something to do with the skin’s pigmentation.

What’s worse is that when your skin ages prematurely due to unprotected sun exposure—you can get wrinkles, brown spots and even skin cancer!

What can you do to prevent this? Stay out of the sun during the middle of the day when the sun’s rays are strongest, wear protective clothing such as hats and umbrellas and use a broad-spectrum sunscreen, which protect against both UVA and UVB rays, with a sun protection factor of 30 or higher. And yes, before the Kojie•san Sun Patrol makes another Citizen’s Arrest—don’t forget to reapply every two hours for maximum protection.

Kojie•san Sunblock is the only sun care brand in the Philippines with Sunactyl, which helps relieve and repair skin from sun damages caused by sun exposure.

Sunactyl protects the skin against UVA and UVB damage through the glutathione system. It also fights UV-stress and heat-stress.

The products include Kojie•san Sunblock SPF 69 PA+++; Kojie•san Sunblock Face SPF 50 PA+++; Kojie•san Sunscreen SPF 55 PA+++ with Lightening; Kojie•san Sunblock Sport SPF 50 PA+++; Kojie•san Before Sunspray SPF 50; Kojie•san After Sunspray and Kojie•san Kids SPF 30 and SPF 50.

All Kojie•san Sunblock products have broad-spectrum protection against harmful UVA and UVB rays to prevent sunburn and premature skin aging.

So don’t be afraid to go out in the sun and enjoy the beach and indulge in other outdoor activities. But make sure to slather on your Kojie•san Sunblock because the Kojie•san Sun Patrol is ready to make a Citizen’s Arrest anytime you commit a skin crime.

If you want to know more about this, go to the @kojiesansunblockph Facebook page.

Phytosterol in Canola Oil Reduces the Risk of Coronary Heart Disease

Love fried foods? You would want to read this!

Press Release:

Filipinos love fried foods. They love the crispy-crunchy sound these make with every bite, but they like the delightful taste of fried food—whether it’s chicken, beef, pork or fish—even better. How can else can you explain why Filipino families are big fans of fastfood chains that serve fried chicken, fried tapa, fried pork liempo, etc.?

Fry your favorite food without the fear of jeopardizing your own health
with Golden Fiesta’s Canola Oil. It boasts of a rich phytosterol content
that reduces your body’s cholesterol level
This trend has raised the alarm among health advocates who associate frying with the liberal use of cooking oil, which is flagged as a product that is detrimental to one’s cardiovascular health.

Fortunately, not all cooking oils are the same, and not all of them are harmful to your body—not when you use the right one.

In fact, scientific studies show that there is actually a heart-healthy nutrient found in canola oil, which lowers one’s bad cholesterol (LDL) level and minimizes one’s risk of acquiring coronary heart disease and hypertension.

Yes, you read that right—canola oil is a cooking oil that you can use for frying without jeopardizing your heart health.

But first, what is canola and what are the benefits we derive from it?

Canola is extracted from grapeseed, which is low in uric acid and glucosinolates. Thus, while canola oil is characterized by a low level of harmful saturated fatty acids, it has substantial amounts of monounsaturated fatty acids, which are touted to have positive effects on cardiovascular health through the regulation of plasma lipids and proteins.

Eating fried dishes does not have to be an unhealthy experience
with Golden Fiesta’s Canola Oil, a rich source of the heart-healthy nutrient phytosterol
In 2006, the US Food and Drug Administration declared that “eating about 1½ tablespoons (19 grams) of canola oil daily may reduce the risk of coronary heart disease due to its unsaturated fat content.”

Research published in Nutrition Reviews further reveals five studies that compared canola-based diets with typical Western diets and found evidence that canola was able to reduce total cholesterol levels by an average of 12.2%. This cholesterol-reducing action is made by possible by canola’s phytosterol content.

Phytosterols, like sterols and stanols, are natural plant-derived compounds that are structurally related to cholesterol. Studies have shown that an intake of 2 grams per day of stanols or sterol reduce low-density lipoprotein by 10 percent.

The USDA has also acknowledged that plant sterol or stanol is generally recognized as safe by manufacturers, and has authorized them to claim that foods rich in phytosterol may reduce the risk of coronary heart disease—one of the leading causes of morbidity and mortality, not just in the US but in the rest of the world.

Indeed, years of scientific evidence have increasingly bolstered the status of canola oil as one of the healthiest oils we can ever use. This explains why canola is the third largest vegetable oil produced after palm oil and soybean oil, and is also the second most consumed cooking oil in the United States.

Golden Fiesta Canola oil is rich in a heart-healthy nutrient called phytosterol,
which lowers the body’s cholesterol level by 15 percent
and reduces one’s risk of acquiring coronary heart disease
So go ahead and enjoy your favorite fried foods. Just be a smart consumer and choose the cooking oil that is best for you.

NutriAsia Golden Fiesta Canola Oil is a good source of phytosterols. Two grams of phytosterols per day may potentially reduce the risk of coronary heart disease.
