Have a Multi-Cultural Afternoon Tea Experience at Le Petit Soufflé

If you're looking for a place to have a nice afternoon tea, look no further! Just head to SM Megamall and discover the offerings at this quaint and charming cafe ...

Press Release:

A charming escape nestled in two of Metro Manila’s busiest malls is Le Petit Soufflé, a French-Japanese inspired restaurant that puts a twist on comfort food classics. Drawing inspiration from the kitsch and class of French cafés in Japan, Le Petit Soufflé attempts to marry the best of both cuisines into a unique and memorable dining experience… one that customers are compelled to return to, time and again. In fact, their latest offering is a multi-cultural adaptation of Afternoon Tea, re-introducing this European pastime to the Manila scene.

Having recently launched the Workshop, a bespoke bakery concept within the Le Petit Soufflé branch in the Mega Fashion Hall, it comes as no surprise that a decadent set of pastries will soon be offered alongside a selection of carefully curated teas. Pastry chefs Miko Aspiras and Kristine Lotilla will be using their years of experience in the hotel industry to treat customers with a one-of-a-kind Afternoon Tea experience for only Php 795.

The Le Petit Soufflé French Afternoon Tea experience includes lavender lemon tea, orange and almond scones served with homemade clotted cream and orange jam, a camembert and apple tartine, cheese profiteroles, a croissant served with butter and jam, foie gras and raspberry L’opera, a salted caramel and Valrhona Guanaja cone, and fairy floss.

The British Afternoon Tea experience includes earl grey and orange tea, macadamia and Valrhona dark chocolate scones served with homemade clotted cream and raspberry jam, a meat and pea pie, mushroom and cheese gougères, croissants with butter and jam, sticky date pudding, a strawberry truffle cone, and fairy floss.

The Japanese Afternoon Tea experience includes a matcha genmai cha, a matcha scone served with adzuki red bean paste and homemade clotted cream, furikake, chasyu and mayo tartine, a matcha and black sesame cheese puff, a croissant with butter and jam, a matcha l’opera, a red bean and cream cone, and fairy floss.

Le Petit Soufflé’s quaint twinkling lights and al fresco inspired interiors make the perfect setting for a relaxed afternoon delight. It would truly not be difficult for a customer to imagine oneself in an enchanted garden in Europe sipping on a warm cup of tea, while munching on the pastries that might as well have been flown in from France, England, or Japan.

Le Petit Soufflé is a Japanese French restaurant concept that serves comfort food with a twist. It is the brainchild of rising chefs Chef Miko Aspiras, Chef Kristine Lotilla, and Chef Noel Mauricio of the Tasteless Food Group

They launched the first Le Petit Soufflé restaurant in Century City Mall in 2015, and recently opened their second branch at Mega Fashion Hall. The Mega Fashion Hall branch also houses The Workshop, a bespoke bakery concept by Chef Miko Aspiras and Chef Kristine Lotilla that seeks to make relevant the Filipino dessert experience.

Give Mom the Healthy and Delicious Hurom Squeeze This Mother’s Day

Looking for a good gift for your mom on Mother's Day that she will truly appreciate? Read on ...

Press Release:

Moms have always made sure that their kids are in the pink of health. They have undertaken countless ways, both stealthy and overt, to make sure you eat your vegetables, take your vitamins and consume good nutritive food you may not have always been so inclined to eat. Now that you’re older, you owe your good health to your mother. It’s time to give that gift of health back to her.

We are all aware that many health campaigns all over the world advice the intake of at least 5 servings of fruits and vegetables for better health.  According to a 13-year study by University College London, a daily average of more than seven plates of fruits and vegetable drastically reduces the risk of all-cause mortality. Fruits and vegetables are not only abundant in vitamins, minerals, and dietary fiber, but in phytochemicals and enzymes as well. These substances have powerful antioxidant effects such as anti-aging, skin care, promoting immunity, among many others.

The amount of enzymes in our bodies gradually decreases with age and they do not replace themselves. So, why is this important? Enzymes are essential to creating energy in your body. If you lack enzymes, it is harder for your body to convert food into energy, making you more easily fatigued. They must be supplemented by food, and fruits and vegetables contain the most enzymes.

Consuming five to seven plates of fruits and vegetables is easier than done.  An alternative to supplement your required daily intake of fruit and vegetables is to drink it. These liquid vitamins taste better, too:  a refreshing glass of vitamins, minerals and enzymes? No wonder juicing is now at an all time high, a trend that is set to become a fixture in daily life. The popularity of juicing has resulted in a proliferation of juicers, so how do you pick the one that best suits your needs, or better yet, one that keeps your health at the forefront of their research?

Hurom has spent over 40 years perfecting juice. Their patented Slow Squeeze Technology uses an auger to squeeze out juice (similar to how you would hand-squeeze an orange) instead of shredding fruits and vegetables with high-speed blades like other juicers and blenders. This motion minimizes damage to ingredients, keeping natural taste and nutrition intact.  In microscopic close ups of Hurom-made tomato juice, the juice retains its natural color and cellular structure.

Hurom juicers are also built to last since maximum juicing health ideally means a daily diet of fresh juices. Materials like ultem, tritan, and stainless steel, some of which are used to build spaceships, make up your Hurom juicer. Hurom results in a higher yield of healthy unprocessed juice that will taste great for 72 hours.

Of course you don’t want the same juice every day, so whether you like sweet and sour fruits or leafy greens or nut milk, a Hurom juicer lets you pick from a wide array of fruits & vegetables, nuts and seeds, and herbs & spices. Hurom is more than just a juicer. Depending on the model, there are many preparations you can do with Hurom such as almond milk and even fresh noodles. Certain Hurom models even have an attachment where you can make healthy pure fruit sherbets and ice cream.

A Hurom juicer is also easy to use & clean. This is something important to the makers because they know if it’s easy to assemble and clean, consumers will use it more. Hurom juicers are 100% BPA free and come without any blades or sharp parts, making it safe for children to use. The narrow hoppers are designed so that even the smallest hands can’t fit inside.

Hurom ambassador Lee Young Ae, better known as Dae Jang Geum, her character in “Jewel in the Palace” is a health conscious mom, “I make fruit and veggie juice with Hurom for myself and my family. My kids don’t like fruits and vegetables,” she admits, which is a common problem all parents share. “But if I make fruit and veggie juice with Hurom, they love it. This is my secret to make them to eat fruit and veggies.” In a commercial that aired on Korean TV, Young Ae is shown juicing apples and carrots on a Hurom juicer for her son, and he drinks it up happily, none the wiser that it’s packed with nutrition. In other ads she is seen holding a juicing party with friends and another one, where she pours her fresh juice in bottles and takes them to work.  “I make different juices every day,” she says referring to her Hurom recipe book. “But my mom loves to make soy noodle with the Hurom slow juicer.” As you can see, Hurom is for all generations of women.

The result is over a million in more than 70 countries make juice with a Hurom juicer, making Hurom the global leader. Wouldn’t you want to give your mom the best?

2016 New Hurom H-AA Series Slow Juicers are available in Abenson, Anson Link, Duty Free, Gourdo’s, Rustan’s, Landmark, Royal Duty Free, S&R, SM Appliance, SM Home, True Value, and Western Appliances. Inspired by Mom, Just for Mom

Love to cook? Read this heartwarming story about JOLLY University Year 4 grand champion Bernice Angeline Tenorio who whipped up a special dish tribute for her mom ...

Press Release:

Most, if not all, will agree that the best cook in the world is their mother -– no dish is as gratifying as the one prepared by Mom. Be it being fed home-cooked meals, learning her kitchen techniques, or being nurtured back to health through comforting soups or desserts, any dish cooked for the family by Mom is always hearty, thanks to her tender loving care.

For 19-year-old Bernice Angeline D. Tenorio, JOLLY University Year 4 Cook-off grand winner, she chose to honor her first kitchen hero, Mommy Lalaine, through her cooking. Unlike dishes that are inspired by trips abroad or created for personal glorification, Bernice’s award-winning recipe at the recent tilt was drawn from her fondest memories of, and deep love for, her amazing mother.

Champion in the making

The eldest among the brood of six, Bernice grew up in a big family with modest means. Despite financial hardships, her endeavors as a child were much bigger and boundless -– she was raised a champion. Bernice graduated class valedictorian in grade school and was a consistent top student achiever in high school.

Bernice’s interest in cooking didn’t start until her grandmother, who operates a home-based kitchenette in Marilao, Bulacan, passed away in 2012. Left with the nostalgia of keeping her mother’s recipes alive, Mommy Lalaine decided to take over the business. From there, Bernice knew she needed to help her mother run it, thus they decided that she will take up Hotel and Restaurant Management at the University of Sto. Tomas (UST)

A self-trained cook and home-based baker, Mommy Lalaine is a former magazine writer and reporter with a degree in Mass Communication from St. Scholastica’s College Manila. She gave up her career to become a full-time housewife and mother to Bernice and her other siblings.

“She’s my first idol and mentor. I learned a lot about cooking from her, I look up to her and I try to mirror her strength: her patience, discipline, resourcefulness, the diligence, and how she handled the nitty-gritty aspects of running our small kitchen while looking after the family’s welfare. I remember both of us staying up till the wee hours of the morning finishing bulk food orders or decorating cakes for customers. It was tiring but very fulfilling,” she remarked.

Bernice said that her Mom’s perseverance simply astounds her. “Just like she would in her cakes and pastry creations, she would strive long and hard in executing to the detail to beautifully achieve the end results.”

Jolly moment

When the news about JOLLY University Year 4 cooking competition reached Bernice in UST, she immediately signed up to try out, for a chance to showcase her innate cooking abilities. Mommy Lalaine, her Dad, and her siblings supported her in her cook-off bid.

With much thought and a grateful heart, Bernice, with the help of her coach, came up with the Chicken and Mushroom Empanadilla dish, her prized entry in the recent JOLLY University Year 4 Cook-Off.  The recipe was simple yet creative, an easy-to-do JOLLY-inspired dish with balanced elements that satisfied judges’ expectations. According to Bernice, the Empanadilla, which is her original recipe, is her “little” way of thanking mommy Lalaine for everything she has done for her and the family.

Though the recipe that wowed judges at the JU competition took only less than two weeks to finalize, Bernice is happy that she was given the golden opportunity to show her best while dedicating a dish made just for her Mom –- win or lose.  “I didn’t have a clear sense of winning; the other entries were equally great. It was a tough competition; I just maintained focus and trust in my abilities, and tried my best to apply what I have learned from Mom and from the JU boot camp. I’m pleased to have fought and won the title for my Mom,” she said.

Success beyond measure

Now on her way to breaking new and higher grounds as an aspiring professional chef -- Bernice is busy training along with fellow representatives from UST for her first out-of-the-country culinary competition, the Hong Kong Culinary Classics happening this May – she couldn’t think of anyone else to dedicate her hard-earned triumphs and delicious new dishes other than her mother.

“If there is one thing that I’ve learned in this journey with my Mom is that there is a reason behind every action that we are doing. Whether good or bad, you learn from the experience and you’ll come out as a better person. There’s still a long road ahead of me. But with perseverance, guidance, and constant love and support from my loved ones especially my mother, I know many wonderful things will happen eventually,” she concluded.

Bernice’s mom is a living portrait of the many mothers who have selflessly supported, endlessly inspired, and rejoiced in their children’s unforgettable life milestones.

JOLLY, for its part, pays tribute to all the amazing mothers by providing quality canned vegetables and fruit products that will help Moms cook easy to prepare and healthy dishes that will inspire to celebrate jolly family meal times together.

PRISON BREAK is back and ready for its biggest escape yet! I just saw the first episode earlier during the press screening and found the story really intriguing. I'll be watching the succeeding shows to see how things would go :)

Press Release:

In the new event series PRISON BREAK, original series stars Wentworth Miller, Dominic Purcell, Sarah Wayne Callies, Amaury Nolasco, Robert Knepper, Rockmond Dunbar, and Paul Adelstein are reunited for an all-new adventure spanning the globe and featuring the signature thrills and cliffhangers that were hallmarks of the original series when it aired from 2005-2009.

The original action drama centered on Michael Scofield (Miller, DC’s Legends of Tomorrow), a young man determined to save his convicted brother, Lincoln Burrows (Purcell, DC’s Legends of Tomorrow), from death row by hatching an elaborate plan to escape from prison.

In the new series, filmed on location in Morocco, clues surface that suggest a previously thought-to-be-dead Michael may be alive. Lincoln and Sara (Sarah Wayne Callies, Colony, The Walking Dead), Michael’s wife until he was presumed dead, reunite to engineer the biggest escape ever, as three of Fox River State Penitentiary’s most notorious escapees, Sucre (Nolasco, Telenovela), T-Bag (Knepper, Heroes) and C-Note (Dunbar, The Mentalist), are pulled back into the action.

PRISON BREAK was an immediate critical and ratings hit, garnering Golden Globe® Award nominations for Best Television Series – Drama and Best Performance by an Actor in a Television Series – Drama (Miller). The original producing team, including series creator Paul T. Scheuring, Neal Moritz, Marty Adelstein, and Dawn Olmstead, return to executive-produce the new series.

HOOQ'd on ALDUB? Binge-Watch "Destined to Be Yours" Anytime, Anywhere!

This post is for my readers who are avid AlDub fans. I know you'll be very happy to hear about this! :)

Press Release:

HOOQ, Asia’s largest Subscription Video-on-Demand (SVOD) service, recently announced its acquisition of the exclusive SVOD rights to the catch-up episodes of AlDub’s first-ever teleserye, Destined to Be Yours, in the Philippines.

“With this new partnership, AlDub fans in the Philippines can stream the latest episode of Destined to be Yours 24 hours after its telecast on GMA Channel 7, plus they can also catch up on all the previous episodes they missed,” says Jane Cruz Walker, Country Manager of HOOQ.

“Since we announced the highly anticipated first primetime TV series of Alden Richards and Maine Mendoza, the entire #AlDub nation created such a buzz online that Destined to be Yours was definitely destined to be a hit even before it aired its first episode,” says Judd Gallares, President & COO of GMA New Media, Inc.

Destined to Be Yours is currently the most talked about primetime show on Philippine television since it aired its premiere episode last February 27, 2017. In fact, the pilot episode garnered 22.5% ratings on AGB Nielsen NUTAM which is 2.9% higher than its rival program. The hashtag for the pilot episode, #DestinedToBeYoursWorldPremiere, also dominated worldwide Twitter trends – garnering 4.4 million tweets from February 26, 6:00 pm to February 28, 6:00 am.

Destined to Be Yours quickly captivated viewers with the enthralling romance story between Benjie Rosales (Alden Richards) and Sinag Obispo (Maine Mendoza) which is set in a charming and picturesque town where anything, especially destiny, is a possibility.

Sinag is a DJ in a community radio station in her hometown of Pelangi. The paradise-like town of Pelangi was formerly a well-developed municipality due to its flourishing mining industry but many people were forced to leave the town after mining firms closed down. Sinag stayed behind because of her love for her hometown and her intention to preserve the traditions and culture of Pelangi through the community radio station that she inherited from her late grandfather.

Meanwhile, Benjie had just graduated from his university and had high hopes of starting his career as an architect. Benjie applies for Rosales Development, one of the largest real-estate development firms in the country. Amanda (Lotlot De Leon), who had to raise Benjie on her own after her husband died from an accident, was against this at first but later allowed it after a change of heart.

Benjie’s grandfather, Vicente Rosales (Tommy Abuel), is a real-estate tycoon and is the owner of Rosales Development. He had alienated Benjie and Amanda for many years following the tragic death of Benjie’s father, Gabriel.  In order to make up for lost time, Benjie’s grandmother, Helen (Boots Anson-Roa), convinces Vicente to interview and offer Benjie a position in the company.

As Benjie accepts the job, he gets assigned to a project at Pelangi. There he meets Sinag and their lives become intertwined as they fall in love with each other.

Joining Alden and Maine is a cast of talented actors led by Boots Anson-Roa, Lotlot De Leon, Gardo Versoza, Tommy Abuel, Ronnie Henares, Ina Feleo, Sheena Halili, Dominic Roco, Juancho Trivino, RJ Padilla, Koreen Medina, and Janice de Belen who recently returned to GMA for this project.

Besides having thousands of Hollywood or US movies and TV series, HOOQ is now the prime destination for Filipino entertainment on demand with the largest library of local movies amongst any video-on-demand service in the country.

“Destined To Be Yours” is the latest addition to the ever growing library of local content available on HOOQ.

HOOQ subscribers can now enjoy over 1,200 Filipino movies spanning almost five decades of film making, and over 4,000 hours of local television leaving other video-in-demand services way behind in terms of Filipino content.

Fans of local TV series can also watch catch up episodes of the latest GMA 7 shows including Meant To Be,  Ika-6 na Utos, and more in the coming months.

HOOQ has over 10,000 movies and TV shows available for streaming or download.
