Bonakid Pre-School Pays Tribute to Moms with a Surprise Mother’s Day Serenade

I really appreciate it when organizations come up with events that pay tribute to the special people in our lives. Two thumbs up for Bonakid Pre-School for delighting moms last Mother's Day with a special song of thanksgiving for all the mothers who are doing their best to raise their children well :)

Press Release:

A good and loving mother is the strongest foundation of a child. This is why this Mother’s Day, Bonakid Pre-School paid tribute to mothers for all the love and guidance they have given their children with a surprise serenade at Market Market Taguig.

Mothers strolling in the mall were delighted as singers bearing roses suddenly appeared and serenaded them with a song that touched their hearts. The song entitled “Salamat Inay”, sung by children and teens, expresses gratitude to mothers who have raised kids that are ready to face the world – mga batang may tibay at may laban sa buhay.

To face the world, children need strong bodies and a strong character. Bonakid Pre-School believes that the process of building children’s character and teaching them the right values should begin in pre-school as it is the time when children first get to interact with the outside world. During these formative years, mothers play a significant role in molding the values that will serve as the foundation of a child’s character.

Besides building good character, children also need strong bodies. Good nutrition must always be a mother’s priority. Teach him to eat healthy and provide him with food that is rich in immunity-boosting nutrients such as vitamin A, vitamin C, vitamin E, Iron, Zinc and Beta-Carotene.

Drinking milk that contains these nutrients, such as Bonakid Pre-School, will also help give him a strong and resilient body. Bonakid Pre-School has Tibay Boosters, a combination of nutrients that help support the immunity, protection and physical growth of children. Plus, it has Lutein, a nutrient which helps protect developing eyes.

In a period full of new and exciting influences and experiences, a mother's guidance is the driving force that shapes the child's character and well-being. “So this Mother’s Day, Bonakid Pre-School is saying salamat inay… Salamat sa walang sawang pagmamahal at pagbibigay-tibay sa inyong mga anak. Dahil sa inyo, maraming bata ang lumalaking may tibay at may laban sa buhay,” said Aubrey Allarde, Product Manager for Bonakid Pre-School.

NGC Shows Food Lovers How to Be Street-Smart

Hey Filipino food lovers! Watch out for a very interesting culture and science TV series from the National Geographic Channel  (NGC) that will be shown on the Nat Geo channel soon.

I got to watch a sneak peek of Sinisintang Chibog last week and found the facts and figures as well as  the interviewees' stories fascinating. Mitzi Borromeo and RJ Ledesma hosted the event and moderated a Q and A portion between media guests and the following speakers:

Ms. Nancy Reyes-Lumen, food writer and editor, TV and radio show host, and an acclaimed cook. She belongs to the famous Reyes family who started Aristocrat restaurant; Ms. Sabrina Batac, R.N.D., a registered nutritionist-dietician and a certified assistant diabetes educator who works at St. Luke’s Medical Center’s Weight Management Center; and Dr. Bong Casis, a neurosurgeon affiliated with St Luke’s Medical Center and The Medical City.

Press Release:

Most Filipinos often regard themselves as street-smart because they already know something about everything or they are not easily fooled into believing what they don’t know. Or they have the skills needed to survive in difficult situations. But are Filipinos really street-smart?

In NGC's first-ever locally produced mini-series Street Smart, NGC asks questions about occurrences in the everyday life of Filipinos and answers them through “street” experts – scientists and people who are immersed in the particular question every day – to uncover amazing yet little known facts about everyday things.

“We are excited to present Street Smart because this is the first culture and science TV series of its kind in the country. Our viewers definitely can improve on their street smartness by watching the series,” said Jude Turcuato, Fox International Channels territory director.

Hosted by NGC Live Curious ambassador Mitzi Borromeo, Street Smart is made up of three one-hour episodes that take a scientific look at the everyday life of Filipinos or the secret life of things through themes such as technology, music, love and attraction, shopping, and health.

Street Smart premieres soon with “Sinisintang Chibog(Food Beloved), a deeper look at Filipinos’ love affair with food from the confessions of sweet-tooth Tania Vaca-Son, vegetarian Corey Wills, and meat lover Alex Lizot-Garcia.

Sharing their knowledge and expert opinions on the science of food, diets, and nutrition are psychiatrist Dr. Norieta Balderrama, registered nutritionist and dietician Sabrina Batac, anthropologist Dr. Francisco Datar, cultural guide Ivan May Dy, food writer Mol Fernando, surgeon Dr. Jeff Inciong, and artist, chef, and food and travel writer Claude Tayag.

Street Smart’s second episode, Flavors of Our Lives, takes a look at the science of flavor as it explores what happens to our bodies when we savor food inside and out. The episode uncovers the mysteries behind how we detect different tastes and the sensory experience of the flavors of our lives.

The series’ third episode, Chibog Chismis (Food Rumors), separates fact from fiction as it investigates 5 food stories in the food rumor mill that has misled adventurous food lovers.

NGC hosted a special screening of “Sinisintang Chibog” at Mercato Centrale at the Bonifacio Global City in Taguig. Mercato is a weekend lifestyle market that offers unique, great tasting food finds and a selection of healthy and organic fruits, vegetables and livestock.

Street Smart is presented by Ajinomoto Philippines Corporation in cooperation with Collezione-C2.

Oohlalicious will keep them wondering why you’re so unforgettable despite your laid-back, composed and serene exterior.

Angelina Jolie talks about Kung Fu Panda 2 and her kids too

I like reading interviews of celebrities talking about their roles in this or that film. Here's one where Angelina Jolie talks about the Kung Fu Panda sequel and several other stuff. I hope you'll also find this interesting :)

Don't forget to catch and enjoy watching Kung Fu Panda 2 in theaters. It's opening in all Philippine cinemas today!

Press Release:

As Tigress, perhaps the most accomplished fighter of the Furious Five, Angelina Jolie was also happy to return, and like Black, was enthusiastic when she found out that her character would be undergoing some changes as well. Jolie says, “First and foremost, Tigress is a fighter, and she’s out to get the bad guy. But what’s nice about this story is that she has a bit of a breakthrough and learns to be nicer. Her pride was wounded when she was not chosen to be the Dragon Warrior, and it took her a while to get over being angry at Po and the universe, in general.”

The writers enthusiastically created new facets in Tigress that gave Jolie more to explore this time around: “What if Tigress had this softer side to her? To be able to give that to Angelina and see what she did with it was great to witness. Sometimes, it takes an animated character to show a different side of an actor. As a voice performer, you’re free from people’s expectations of what they’ve seen from you in live-action films.”

When asked why she feels the first film was so successful (and the reason why the cinematic tale is continuing), Jolie observes, “The movie was so fun and cool and hip, but it also had a sense of history and culture. It was also this moral tale of how to behave, how to treat your friends, which makes it more like a classic animated film. But mostly, it has Jack Black, which I feel is the main reason people went to see it—it would be my reason! He’s so funny, and the dynamic between him and the Five, it’s almost a classic dysfunctional family.”

“And what really impresses me,” considers Jolie, “is that they really took the hard road with this sequel. Sometimes, you can just take it easy on a second film—but the choices they made, there’s so much more added depth. I think the writers and the filmmakers decided to address issues of sense of self and identity—things that come into play for anyone who starts life as an orphan or undergoes adoption. Working with Jen as a director, she’s probably the calmest person I’ve ever met. She’s put a great deal of thought into these projects, which have taken up something like seven-and-one-half years. She’s such a soulful person and she’s brought so many interesting, thoughtful layers to the story. She has a great nurturing sense about her, along with extraordinary intelligence and depth.”

Her admiration of her colleagues aside, when asked to name one of the best things about working on the “Panda” films, Jolie jokes, “You get to come to work in your pajamas.”

So how was it coming back to the character, any different, did you have like, I’m coming home feeling?

I think it was more fun the second time around that we all got to know each other and our characters already had history. So it was fun to kind of jump in and immediately start to play and we didn’t have much time off because you start doing them, they take so many years. We kind of jumped in right away and I love her, for me, Tigress is one of the best characters I’ve ever played, I love it, it’s a pleasure.

Does having six kids at home make you feel more interested in films like Kung Fu Panda? Also, what do you think in general about the sequel?

Certainly anybody with children. But at the end of the day we’re all big kids and we all just wanna play and we all like to do these movies. You know, it’s a great deal of fun. But certainly, having my kids and we talked about them as being a bar, ‘cause they were from two to ten and we figured that this was a good group to get a gauge of whether or not the film was working when we brought them in. So, of course in so many ways, I did it for them and I’m excited for them to see it and for sequels I think, you know the trick of a sequel is you have to make it better than the first one and that’s a very, very hard thing to do, especially with one that was so successful and I think, our very, very talented Director pulled it off.

As an actress and as a parent, how do you deal with violence in movies in general? How do you decide what to show to your children and how much is enough?

Well, I think one you have to know your children, ‘cause I think there are children that have a better understanding and are ready earlier than others. But for a film like this, I don’t see this as a film that’s too violent. I think this actually show, it’s actually quite the opposite because the strength, even in the final battle, it’s the inner peace and the way of kind of sending back somebody’s negative energy, is actually what wins against the kind of manic aggression and violence and war weapons. It’s the one that doesn’t want to use violence, but the one that chooses to kind of find a centre. So, you know, all my boys are in martial arts classes and it’s been a great way. Boys are boys and they have a certain kind of energy, naturally and it’s been wonderful to get them focussed on martial arts, to teach them about the discipline and the respect and the control of their own bodies. And I think, to ignore that that’s a part of humanity, of human beings and especially little boys, is wrong. So it’s to help guide them through it and help give them some assistance of, you know, what is a positive thing, what’s a good guy, who do you fight against if you need to and to try not to, certainly. But if you have to, to defend yourself.

You said before that Tigress is one of the most interesting characters that you play. Why is it so? Also, has the development of your character this time got anything to do with having a female director?

I think it is an interesting question. I’m sure there is something to do that that, yes. I’m sure. We’ve never discussed it. I don’t think a man couldn’t have seen that, I think it was something though that, I think the original Tigress, it was wonderful in that it was chosen that, one of the strongest leaders of the Furious Five was a woman. When I first saw the characters, I didn’t know if she was a boy or a girl but I wanted to play her, whoever she was, ‘cause I liked her and I was very excited that it was a girl and for my Daughters, for me, I thought it was great and then I think, you know, we talked a lot about the fact that Po has, actually for a male character, he has a lot of sensitivity and emotion and so it seems like a very nice balance that she’s kind of the harder one that needs to learn to be a bit more emotional and he’s the very emotional one that is getting tougher. Right, can I say that?

You play a lot of fighter roles, tough women, and femme fatales. Are you a fighter? Where does that come from? You’re a tough customer on the screen, what’s the personal alter ego to that, if I may ask?

Well, certainly my alter ego is who I am 100%, which is a Mum who’s changing diapers and colouring all night long. So I’m sure I’m very, very soft. But no, I’ve always been somebody that’s been drawn to strong characters and I admire strong women, emotionally and physically, not just physically, just people that I feel are fighting for something. I have a sense of justice and injustice and it’s always been more that than just wanting to be tough and I’ve been very lucky that I came to my career at a time where women are being allowed these roles and have had such great opportunities for these types of characters.

“Kung Fu Panda 2” is released and distributed by United International Pictures through Solar Entertainment Corp.

The company further recommended that any passwords used on the PSN must be changed immediately especially if these have been reused somewhere else. In addition, Kaspersky Lab also warns users of emails claiming to be from Sony or affiliate firms asking for personal information.

Kaspersky Lab junior malware analyst Timothy Armstrong says it is quite evident that Sony did not make enough effort to secure user data. It was often believed that networks of game consoles, including Microsoft's Xbox Live, are largely trusted because these have had no history of security issues common among websites and personal computers.

Just days after the incident was reported, Sony admitted that nearly all types of user information became available to the unknown hacker. These include the names, addresses, email addresses, birthdays, and PSN login details of over 70 million PSN users.

Furthermore, Sony said that there is possibility of credit card information being stolen as well. It promised that it is extensively investigating the matter and is in the process of rebuilding the network while undergoing security audits.

Though it was not clear what methods were used to hack into PSN, it shows attackers are becoming increasingly interested in alternate sources of personal information.

“Console gaming on platforms such as the Playstation and Xbox are incredibly successful in large part due to the networks behind them. Users can purchase games, content, and access to third party services such as Netflix,” says Armstrong.

The alleged PSN hack was first revealed in April 20, allegedly allowed the hackers to gain access to personal accounts and passwords of over 70 million users. This is considered the first such major hack of a gaming console network.

The PSN is an online service by Sony to users of their PlayStation 3 console and PlayStation Portable handheld player. This service allows users to download a variety of games, add-on applications, and other exclusive web-related services.

Apart from the PSN, Microsoft has its own online service called Xbox Live for its Xbox 360 owners. Nintendo also has its WiiConnect24 for its Wii game console .

World’s Phenomenal “Titanic” Re-Release in 3D

Titanic is one my favorite films of all time despite the tragic ending to the love story between Rose and Jack. It's so exciting to find out that the movie will be re-released in 3D next year!

Press Release:

Hollywood, CA (May 2011) – Coinciding with “Titanic’s” centennial year since sailing, Paramount Pictures, Twentieth Century Fox and Lightstorm Entertainment jointly announced that James Cameron’s “TITANIC” will be re-released worldwide on April 6, 2012. The release, which marks the 100th anniversary of the Titanic setting sail (April 10th), will present the film in 3D for the first time.

Written, directed and produced by Cameron, “Titanic” is the second highest grossing movie of all time. It is one of only three films to have received a record of 11 Academy Awards® including Best Picture and Best Director; and launched the careers of stars Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet.

Called “A spectacular demonstration of what modern technology can contribute to dramatic storytelling” by Variety upon its release in 1997, the long in the works 3D conversion is being overseen by Cameron and his Lightstorm producing partner Jon Landau who produced the hit movie.

Said Cameron, “There’s a whole generation that’s never seen ‘Titanic’ as it was meant to be seen on the big screen. And this will be ‘Titanic’ as you’ve never seen it before, digitally remastered at 4k and painstakingly converted to 3D. With the emotional power intact and the images more powerful than ever, this will be an epic experience for fans and newcomers alike.”

“This new presentatioin of Paramount’s top-grossing film is particularly special because 2012 is the 100th anniversary of our studio. Paramount has had the pleasure of introducing audiences to some of the all-time classics of cinema during that century of moviemaking and we cannot think of a better way to mark the occasion than with this re-release of ‘Titanic’,” said Brad Grey, Chairman and CEO of Paramount Pictures.

Commented Fox Filmed Entertainment Chairmen and CEOs, Jim Gianopulos and Tom Rothman: “Our 30-plus year relationship with Jim Cameron and Lightstorm has been enormously rewarding , from ‘Aliens’ to ‘Avatar’, and the global phenomenon of ‘Titanic’ remains one of the greatest sources of pride in our history. We are pleased to allow a new generation of audiences to experience the film in its brilliant digital restoration in 3D.”

“Titanic” in 3D will be re-released in the Philippines by 20th Century Fox thru Warner Bros. in theaters nationwide.

Straight from the experts: Sustainability influences interior design

I am glad that interior designers are also leaning towards using sustainable products in coming up with eco-friendly designs. I hope more of them would join this worthwhile cause.

Press Release:

People nowadays are starting to be more pragmatic, considering long-term benefits over extravagance. This current mindset reflects a paradigm shift towards a more sustainable aesthetic. Choosing eco-friendly designs in clothing, technology, and especially in the home, they are setting a greener lifestyle standard. Guiding people in designing more environment-friendly and still elegant homes are some of the country’s top interior designers - Johnny Hubilla of Hubilla Design Group, Leo Almeria of Leo Almeria Design Studio and Hisako Hirayama of Design Hirayama + Quesada (Design HQ). Working with more forward-thinking art and furniture stores and suppliers, they show that good home design can express personality while promoting concern for the community.

Fusing sustainable and indigenous designs

“More people are becoming practical and concerned for the environment,” says Johnny Hubilla, a pillar in local interior design. “The trend now is practical and sustainable design. So if you can use fabric, use it because it can be washed. If you can use bamboo then do so because it is durable and can be replaced over time.” Hubilla, founder and president of the Hubilla Design Group, is most noted for his contributions that helped the local interior design industry flourish. He was a former chairman of the Board of Interior Design of the Professional Regulation Commission (PRC), and former vice head for the National Committee on Architecture and Allied Arts (NCAAA) for the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA). Design-wise, his signature style is to leave touches of indigenous materials or native-inspired pieces in his designs.

Leo Almeria, one of the country’s seasoned interior designers and owner of the Leo Almeria Design Studio, also interprets the trend towards sustainability by embracing local or native designs in beautifying the modern Filipino home. “My design philosophy revolves around the lifestyle of the client,” he shares. “For instance, I have to determine if client is sophisticated, casual or executive, so that I make an appropriate plan that fits his/her personality. It should also have touches na bagay sa climate of the country (using local materials that allow ventilation), and show a sustainability-centered frame of mind.” A veteran in the local interior design industry, Leo Almeria continues to design residential and commercial spaces, and guides aspirants by teaching courses at the Philippine School of Interior Design and College of St. Benilde.

For interior designer Hisako Hirayama of Design Hirayama + Quesada (Design HQ), fusing different styles can mean a more timeless look for the home, minimizing the need for constant renovation. “Mix old with the new; do not go with just one style. Try placing oversized furniture in small spaces because it surprisingly expands the space, or create cove lighting for mood enhancement,” says Hirayama. She co-founded Design HQ boutique with Frenjick Quesada, which is now ten years in the business. She is a passionate designer who translates client’s needs into inspiring designs.

Finding pieces that suit the lifestyle

With more of their clients ascribing to the sustainable concept in interior design, Hubilla, Almeria and Hirayama are pleased to know they have a one-stop place where they can source key furniture “anchor” pieces - LRI Design Plaza located along Nicanor Garcia (formerly Reposo) Street. Considered by many architects and interior designers as the ultimate urban design hub, it houses timeless furniture pieces and artwork that go with the trends and changing times. Featuring stores that showcase world-class Filipino products and designs, stores that carry a mix of edgy and modern art, and stores that cater to the eclectic tastes of a designer, LRI Design Plaza is home to a myriad of quality products that can contribute to sustainable home design. As these experts have confirmed, LRI Design Plaza is truly the place to go when looking for furniture, artwork and decors that meet the demands of the times. LRI Design Plaza is located at 210 Nicanor Garcia Street (formerly Reposo St.), Bel-Air II, Makati City. For more details, please call 895-1772; 895-5470 or (0922) 857-2559.

Mr. Popper’s Penguins: Pure Jim Carrey Magic From Start To Finish

Have you seen the trailer of Mr. Popper's Penguins yet? It's hilarious! I'm looking forward to seeing Jim Carrey and his zany antics on the big screen again!

Press Release:

Jim Carrey stars anew at his comic best in the hilarious and heartfelt family film “Mr. Popper’s Penguins” based on the beloved children’s book of the same title by Richard and Florence Atwater. Carrey plays Thom Popper, a workaholic New York businessman who has neglected the woman he loves and his children, in order to pursue his real estate career with a relentless drive. His life is suddenly and dramatically turned around when six penguins are delivered to his apartment and he is forced to become their full-time caretaker. They are undeniably cute but inevitably cause chaos, gradually showing him what is really important in life. Directed by Mark Waters, the wonderful supporting cast includes the legendary Angela Lansbury, Carla Gugino …and six Gentoo penguins.

Carrey’s character Thom is divorced from the woman he still loves (played by Carla Gugino), he does not make time for his two children and has lost touch with everything that is precious in life. Mr. Popper has sacrificed his family for his career. We discover that as a child he never got the chance to form a close relationship with his own dad, who preferred traveling around the globe having adventures to staying at home and building a bond with his son.

An inherently good guy, Mr. Popper has become consumed with work and is remarkably self-centered. Everything changes when he inherits six Gentoo penguins from his estranged father. Initially horrified, he gradually befriends the beautiful Antarctic birds as he is compelled to care for them. The penguins waste no time in creating total havoc and in the process, turn his life upside down as they slowly turn his pristine and swanky New York apartment into a chilly winter wonderland. Inevitably, the pesky penguins require his constant attention and make it impossible for Mr. Popper to conduct business with his previous level of relentless focus and drive. As he finds life both at work and at home rapidly unraveling, he also begins to learn the value of family.

“Mr. Popper’s Penguins” will open in Phil. cinemas on June 17 from 20th Century Fox. Visit 20th Century Fox (Philippines) on Facebook and on www.youtube.com/20thcenturyfoxph for promos and latest clips.

Walk the World! Help End Hunger!

We can all do something! Please read and know the various ways you can help this worthwhile endeavor ...

Press Release:

Take a step towards ending hunger with WFP National Ambassador Against Hunger KC Concepcion at SM Mall of Asia, on May 29, 5:00AM

PHILIPPINES – “Karon pa jud ko nabusog, Ma’am!” (This is my first time to feel full, Ma’am!), said Shiela Mae Gascon, 9, a grade three student, after eating a hot nutritious meal through the support of the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) for Tugar Elementary School in Kauswagan Municipality in Lanao del Norte. Tugar Elementary School is just one of the 300 schools that WFP assists with its Emergency School Feeding programme in the conflict-affected provinces of Central Mindanao to help get children into schools and out of hunger.

Hunger and malnutrition are the biggest threats to global health worldwide, and are responsible for a third of all deaths in children under the age of five in the developing world.

This year, thousands of people around the globe are preparing to join WFP and its major corporate partners, TNT, Unilever and DSM, in a walk to raise awareness and money to feed hungry children in some of the poorest countries in the world on May 29, Sunday.

WFP and its partners are passionate about taking action on this important issue and believe that everyone can help by joining Walk the World Pilipinas as a step towards ending hunger.

WHERE: SM Mall of Asia, IMAX Parking lot
WHEN: May 29, 2011, Sunday, 5:00-10:00AM

This year’s Walk the World, which is set to be bigger than the previous years, is open to walkers and runners who are passionate about fighting hunger. In addition to the traditional 2-km walk, there will be a 5-km run for enthusiasts, both male and female, and a competitive 10-km group run. Proceeds from the event will support approximately 80,000 school children in the provinces of Maguindanao, Lanao del Norte and Lanao del Sur.

Join Walk the World Pilipinas today (www.walktheworld-pilipinas.org) – together we can end hunger.

It costs WFP just 10 pesos to provide a nutritious meal to a child at school. School feeding programmes also give parents an extra incentive to keep their children in school, and help to lay a healthy foundation for a better future for the young.

If you can’t join the walk in person, you can still get involved at http://wfp.org/walktheworld with photos, videos and donations.

Magic Trick -- X-MEN: FIRST CLASS' Latest Trailer

Press Release:

X-MEN: FIRST CLASS is a new beginning for the X-Men. The story is by Sheldon Turner, an Academy Award nominee for co-scripting Up in the Air, and Bryan Singer – whose work as the director of the first two films in the series, X-Men and X2: X-Men United, was hailed by critics and audiences around the world for their skillful and seamless blending of drama, action, scale and social-political themes. Singer’s X-Men films became a template for the resurgence in comics-to-movie adaptations, and landmarks in the new age of superhero films.

Most of X-MEN: FIRST CLASS is set in the 1960s, an apt period for an origins tale because it was during this decade that Marvel Comics editor, head writer and art director Stan Lee, along with Jack Kirby, created the X-Men comics. The X-Men, like many of their Marvel predecessors, are an unusual heroic group – at times sarcastic, anti-social and clearly flawed, yet sympathetic when battling the demons of their love lives, tackling the traumas of self-esteem, or taking on powerful villains in their universe of special powers. They are the children of the atom, homo superior, and the next link in the chain of evolution. Each mutant was born with a unique genetic mutation, which at puberty manifested itself in extraordinary powers. In a world increasingly filled with hatred, prejudice and fear, they are scientific oddities…freaks of nature…outcasts who are feared and loathed by those who cannot accept their differences.

“X-Men: First Class” opens June 2 (Thursday) in Philippine theaters from 20th Century Fox to be distributed by Warner Bros.

Cirque du Soleil Puts Manila on the Entertainment Map of Asia

My husband and I have both been fascinated with Cirque du Soleil since our college days when we first watched a CD of their show called Quidam. Since then, we've dreamed of watching them live someday. I hope that this year, our long-time wish will finally come true ...

Press Release:

When staging huge productions, foreign artists look to our neighbors like Tokyo, Hong Kong, Singapore, Seoul, Macau, and Taipei, to host shows that will cater to a more affluent market. Big productions such as the “Lion King”, “Wicked” and “Phantom of the Opera” have been staged in some of these Asian countries and have done exceptionally well in terms of market sales.

Over the years, Manila rarely gets the opportunity to stage big productions due to the lack of infrastructure and the Filipino market has always been underestimated.

Macau, on the other hand, has become an entertainment hub for its five-star hotels and casinos as well as entertainment shows for all ages. The Venetian Hotel in Macau, for example, was able to stage big ticket productions including “ZAIA”, one of the many offerings of Canada-based international performing group Cirque du Soleil. And for years, Filipinos wishing to witness such international caliber stage productions had to spend more money by travelling to other neighboring Asian countries.

In an effort to bring world-class entertainment to the country, Hoopla Inc., official promoter of Cirque du Soleil in the Philippines, finally brings one of the Cirque du Soleil big top live production Varekai.

Varekai has been touring in the last nine years in North America, Australia, New Zealand and Europe. This year, Varekai finally visits Asia beginning with Taiwan in January. They are currently performing in South Korea and will be premiering in the Philippines in June 2011.

Hoopla, Inc. believes that the Manila staging of Varekai will help boost the image of the Philippines as an entertainment destination and will encourage other big-ticket productions to consider the country for their shows. The official promoter also shares that they are very excited to bring Cirque du Soleil to the Philippines because they feel that the local audience deserves only the best. Made possible by the show’s presenting sponsors, Manila Hotel and Banco De Oro, together with its official sponsor, Sun Life Financial, they stressed that there is huge market for high-quality productions in the Philippines, affirming the Filipinos’ passion for art, music and entertainment.

Cirque du Soleil will set up its trademark blue and yellow Grand Chapiteau (Big Top) which can house up to over 2,500 audiences across Quirino Grandstand. Varekai will perform in Manila for a limited engagement from June 22-July 8, 2011. Tickets are available through our online box office at www.hoopla.ph or www.cirquedusoleil.com. For inquiries, call 775-0939, 881-0947, 0919-4508125 and 0917-4436463.

About Cirque du Soleil

From a group of 20 street performers at its beginnings in 1984, Cirque du Soleil is a major Québec-based organization providing high-quality artistic entertainment. The company has 5,000 employees, including more than 1,300 artists from close to 50 different countries.

Cirque du Soleil has brought wonder and delight to more than 100 million spectators in more than 300 cities on five continents. Cirque du Soleil International Headquarters are in Montreal, Canada.
