Join the fun, get healthier, and help Filipino children at the same time!

Press Release:

Running is arguably one of the most popular sports today -- and the most preferred fitness exercise by Filipinos. It boasts of many health benefits, promotes healthy lifestyle, prolongs life and in some cases, may even save lives.

Malnutrition is still the leading health problems among Filipino children. The National Nutrition Survey shows that 2 out of 10 children under 5 are malnourished. Meanwhile, 10 million children die before their 5th birthday every year due to preventable diseases.

For almost 60 years in the Philippines, World Vision has taken huge strides to ensure that Filipino children enjoy the fullness of life they deserve. Proceeds from this charity event will be used to fund nutrition interventions in areas where chronic malnutrition is most prevalent.

Now on its 5th year, World Vision Run offers a bigger and more fun-filled activities the whole family will enjoy. The event is happening on June 26, 2016 at the Blue Bay Walk in Pasay City, with an expected 7,000 participants. Race categories include 3k, 5k, 10k 21k, and a 500-meter dash for kids. Cake Decorating Demo and Book Signing by Buttercream Artists from London

For my friends and readers who love baking cakes, here's an event you might find very interesting!

Press Release:

Renowned  masters of buttercream art Valeri Valeriano and Christina Ong will be at the Activity Center of Glorietta 3, Ayala Center, Makati on  June 18, Saturday, 1:00pm. The multi-awarded chefs behind Queen of Hearts Couture Cakes will do a cake decorating demonstration and introduce their third book. Entitled “Buttercream OneTier Wonders”, it features 30 simple yet sentational single-tier cake decorating projects for all occasions.  Ideal for buttercream beginners, the colorful tome provides step-by-step instruction on a wide range of innovative techniques using piping tips, palette knives, and other tools.

Pinoy masters of buttercream art
Based in London, the Filipina duo offer the most intensive and extensive buttercream techniques  through classes in Europe, USA, Asia, Middle East, and Australia. They have been acclaimed as international cake stars in prestigious international Cake Shows and featured in numerous distinguished publications and TV Shows. They have also authored the “The Contemporary Buttercream Bible” and “100 Buttercream Flowers”.

They fell in love with buttercream and the piping process in 2011. “Our first ever set of nozzles was the cheapest you could ever find in eBay. Then we noticed that the quality of the piped flowers were not good because of the poor quality of the nozzles we were using. We searched online and found Wilton. We never used any other brand since,” related Valeri.  “Our favorite nozzle of all time is the Wilton Petal Tip 104,” claimed Christina.

Wilton products will be used during the cake decorating demonstration and event participants will get a chance to bring home Wilton items for free, through the raffle by houseware retailer, Gourdo’s. There will be book signing after the program.

Tickets are at P200 and can be purchased at Gourdo’s in Alabang Town Center and Megamall  as well as at Living Well in The Podium and SM Aura.  “Buttercream One Tier Wonders”  retails for P950. For inquiries and reservations, call (02) 8123022 or email customercare@gourdos.com

Taste the Best Adobo Dishes as the Datu Puti Adobo Movement Brings the Challenge to Mercato Centrale!

This coming Saturday, vendors will vie for the honor of having the top adobo dish. Be there as it happens!

Press Release:

Think: mouthwatering Adobo and an appetite for friendly fun. The Datu Puti Adobo Movement is cooking up an exciting lineup of challenges and events to support its thrust to get Adobo its due accolade. Part of this gastronomic lineup of events is the Adobo Challenge, Datu Puti’s search for the best version of the Adobo among a lineup of budding food entrepreneurs.

The Datu Puti Adobo Movement was initially created to push for Adobo to be our pambansang ulam. It is a movement that celebrates the cultural heritage of the Adobo dish. According to the Datu Puti Adobo Movement, all Filipinos across the regions have their own take on the dish, inspired by how the traditional comfort food is prepared by their families based on their flavor preferences and their access to local ingredients.

Friendly Competition
The Datu Puti Adobo Challenge represents the next phase in the Datu Puti Adobo Movement. After the warm response to the advocacy in 2015, 2016’s Datu Puti Adobo Challenge is poised to drive more enthusiasm and sustain support for the cult fave dish. More specifically, the Datu Puti Adobo Challenge dares Mercato Centrale’s food vendors to stake their claim for the best Adobo dish in town.

To qualify, the vendor’s adobo dish must use any type of meat or vegetable, and marinated
in or cooked with at least two of the three main Datu Puti products: vinegar, soy sauce, and patis (fish sauce). Accepted entries will be evaluated based on the various criteria, including: creativity of concept, which looks at the story behind the dish as well as originality, branding, and cooking technique; innovation, noting the use of unique special ingredients and Datu Puti products; and Philippine culinary heritage, including how it adopts and represents regional cooking styles.

Celebrating Adobo’s Best
Mercato Centrale’s finest vendors will showcase their Adobo recipes at a gastronomic showdown at the Mercato Central Saturday market in Bonifacio Global City on June 11, the culmination of the Datu Puti Adobo Challenge.

Join the Movement on June 11 and enjoy the taste fest during the Datu Puti Adobo Challenge. Rate sheets will be tallied based on the sampling served to a select pool of judges. Then, at the end of the Datu Puti Adobo Challenge, three winners will be declared, taking into the account the flavor, story, and heart behind their Adobo masterpieces. In addition, a People’s Choice Award will also be given to the crowd favorite, based on the preferences of the foodies on site.

All Adobo winners will be awarded start-up funds in cash, so they can include their winning dishes in their regular Mercato menu for at least 12 nights. The People’s Choice awardee, on the other hand, will receive over P3,000 worth of Datu Puti goods.

Adobo Party
Aside from the Datu Puti Adobo Challenge, the celebrations at Mercato Centrale on June 11 will also feature a celebration of homegrown talent, all in full support of the advocacy behind the Adobo Movement. The party will be hosted by familiar foodie Tonipet Gaba, and the feast will be made even more festive with musical performances by musical idols UpDharma Down and Ebe Dancel.

Drop by Mercato Centrale (along 7th avenue and 25th street, across The Forum and in front of the “Between the Lines” art mural) in BGC Taguig on June 11, Saturday, to witness a showdown and showcase of the best of the best of our homegrown talents onstage and behind kitchen doors.

Unwanted Hair Problems ‘Vanish’ in SvelT’i, the New Health and Beauty Center in Timog

Got unwanted hair? Read on!

Press Release:

Too much hair can be a double-edged sword.  First, there is no questioning the proverb that it can be the crowning glory of a woman---and, stretching it further, a very attractive feature of a man. The right amount, spread thickly over a man’s chest, can make him look downright hunky and hot.  Meanwhile, a lady’s long luscious tresses can enhance her feminine allure and draw in lingering admiring glances. That’s the good side.

On the other hand, since the onset of their adolescence, both men and women have been struggling with hair that is not wanted.  Excessive hair at the wrong places can bring in attention that is not equally wanted. It can be distracting and de-glamorizing, to the point of affecting the confidence of the man or woman in question, especially if they are going through their teenage years.  Finally, beyond the aesthetics, it can also affect their health and well-being, physical and emotional.

No wonder the people who grow an unusual amount of hair want to remove it swiftly and cleanly.  And through the more common treatments like shaving for the men and waxing for the women, they are more than willing to go through a little pain if necessary.

Fortunately, that bit of sacrifice can also be removed, along with their unwanted hair, thanks to a non-intrusive, safe, and very effective treatment appropriately called the Vanish Hair Removal.  Available at the SvelT’i Health and Beauty Center, Vanish has significantly reduced unwanted patches of hair from the face, underarms, arms, back, chest, legs, abs, and other parts of the body.  The treatment can be used for both men and women and is indicated for all skin and body types.

The machine emits none of the prickling sensations that women feel if they undergo the standard waxing treatment.  More important, it leaves the treated skin lighter, smoother, and sometimes a bit glowing.

“You can see the effect on the concerned body part after one session,” says Dra. Lalaine Salazar, SvelT’i’s Medical Director.  “The thickness of the hair has thinned, and copious amounts have been lessened.  The skin becomes healthier and the amount of hair decreases as the treatment continues.  The amount of treatment depends on the patient’s skin condition and hair quality.”

Vanish’s treatment is both powerful and near instantaneous because it goes to the root of the matter, which is the follicle of the patient’s hair.  It focuses its laser light on the deepest level of the hair strands, e.g. the root, and neutralizes their growth capabilities. Because the machine focuses on the body part where the hair follicles are growing actively, its destruction of these strands accomplishes two things:  it removes the most active patch of hair that is about to mature and become visible in the body part; at the same time, it also withers the hair’s root to prevent future growth.

It’s like a lumberjack cutting the tallest trees in the most densely populated parts of the forest.  Then after the trunk has been torn down, he literally uproots the now dead tree from the soil, making sure that it does not strengthen and grow again.

“There are also health benefits in using Vanish,” adds Dra. Salazar.  “Some of the treatments commonly used bruise the skin, like shaving by the men and waxing by the women.  They irritate the skin and can even darken it. If not done properly, sometimes the skin suddenly feels bumpy or rough.  Vanish leaves none of those consequences but, in fact, leaves the skin toned and smooth.  The health of the skin is protected.”

By uprooting the follicles from the skin, Vanish also removes any risk of folliculitis, a medical condition which happens when heavy-handed shaving actually pushes the hair root back into the skin without the man doing it knowing.  The follicle gains mass inside the skin and infects it.  Sometimes, men tend to disregard these rough pink spots as pimples; however, if the follicle continues to amass and is left untended, it can actually develop into a pus.

“A lot of our men patients don’t really want to shave but they have to, sometimes daily or two to three times a week,” discloses Dra. Salazar.  “Vanish saves them from the risks of folliculitis or the trauma that can happen to the skin brought about by the friction of shaving. After the treatment, when their facial hair grows back, it’s thinner because Vanish addressed the problem of its thickness and profuseness at the very root.”

Women who have used Vanish can also attest that they are less plagued by usual problems of hair visibly sprouting from their underarm or creating a mini-mat on their stomach and legs.  A few sessions with Vanish can literally make their skin hair-free, pinkish and shiny, and ready to enjoy a weekend of swimming on the beach.

“The women can relax too,” smiles Dra. Salazar.  “Oftentimes, after waxing or plucking, their skin feels irritated, sensitive, and painful to touch. Vanish can remove their hair without inflicting those conditions on them.”

It seems to be the dawn of a new era for the formerly follicularly-challenged. Now they can get all those body-transforming benefits of hair removal:  without having to worry about the pain or the trauma, they can just experience the transformation and set out to become drop-dead gorgeous the next day.
