Mark Salling in “GLEE The 3d Concert Movie”

Our favorite musical TV series is coming out in the big screen ... in 3D! Here's an interview with the guy who plays Puck ...

Mark Salling who stars in the hugely popular TV show “Glee” along with all the other familiar young faces from the high-energy series performs in “Glee The 3D Concert Movie,” filmed during their recent tour that filled stadiums.

Glee’s depiction of teenage life and relationships with its leads as flawed and mostly underdogs made strong waves across all ages that one doesn’t have to be skinny or perfect to succeed. 

In the following Q and A by Ellaine Lipworth, Mark Salling, a classically trained pianist who also plays the guitar, bass and drums shares about the new film and what makes Glee resonate with audiences of every generation.

Q: How exciting is it making a movie?

A: It is very exciting and special; it’s good to see the world and see so many different fans and different cultures and just spread the joy of GLEE. A lot of people who couldn’t make it to the concerts will be able to see us on the big screen, that’s the main thing, and the movie is in 3D. But we didn’t really feel like we were doing a movie.”

Q: How do you keep going and maintain the energy and momentum?

A: “You know, you say I’m young and I’ll sleep when I die and keep on trucking. I drink a double dose of vitamin C packets every day and I work out every single day during the show. You keep your body healthy and you keep your mind healthy.”

Q: What do you think of the way the show has brought classic music to a younger generation that might not know all these wonderful songs and artists you are covering?

A: “It is great and I think the other side of that is that it also brings new music to older people.” 

Q: Why do you think GLEE has become so popular?

A: “It has something for everyone. It is all about embracing what makes each person different and it is about rooting for the underdog and people can relate to that concept.”

Q: You are a musician, does music still have the same impact for you now? Does it still feel as fresh and as inspiring to you now it is part of your daily life doing GLEE?

A: “You know, it really does. GLEE has actually opened my eyes personally to different horizons of music and dance and writing and acting and there is so much for an artist to take in and learn, so that’s what I’ve been trying to do.” 

Prior to GLEE, Salling has appeared in commercials and in films, including “Children of the Corn IV: The Gathering.” His television credits include “Walker” and “Texas Ranger.” Salling enjoys playing Frisbee and golf and has a passion for ornithology.

Glee’s Finn Mans Up In Teen Romance “Monte Carlo”

Best known for playing Finn Hudson in the popular Fox series “Glee,” Cory Monteith stars with today’s teen icon Selena Gomez in “Monte Carlo,” along with “Gossip Girl’s” Leighton Meester and Katie Cassidy.

Monte Carlo opens us to freshly minted high school grad Grace (Selena Gomez) and best friend Emma (Katie Cassidy) jettisoning their waitress jobs in Texas for a trip to Paris. But Grace’s killjoy stepsister Meg (Leighton Meester) is involuntarily installed as chaperone by Grace’s parents. Meanwhile, Emma’s boyfriend, Owen (Cory Monteith), is trying to put the kibosh on the trip altogether with a ring and proposal.

Monteith along with the troika of actresses settled, the filmmakers believed that he fits the role of Owen perfectly. He’s a big, friendly, very funny and likable guy. He sells the character the instant he’s on screen,” says director Thomas Bezucha in casting Monteith. Below is a Q and A of Cory describing his dream girl and experience in the movie. 

Q. What’s your character like?

A. Owen is completely in love with Katie Cassidy’s character, Emma. He’s on a journey - and he’s chasing her across Europe so he can take her home again and marry her. He can be a little misguided, but he’s incredibly romantic and prepared to do whatever it takes to win back his girl.

Q. Which of your co stars did you bond with the most quickly?

A. I think I bonded with them all straight away! Selena is very sweet. She’s really down to earth, and excellent at doing accents. We playfight like a brother and sister - she’s tiny but determined, although she has yet to hurt me! Leighton is great, and can give a solid high five. That’s a life skill. 

Q. How flirty are you?

A. I’m single, and I love that life but I’m not a dog! I’m pretty goofy and I make a lot of dumb jokes - life is too short to be serious, so I guess that’s how I flirt. To be honest, I’ve never really thought about it - I think I’m too shy and reserved to be a proper old fashioned flirt.

Q. Describe your dream girl.

A. People who are passionate are attractive - if they’re excited about their life and what they’re doing, that’s really engaging. It doesn’t matter whether they’re a movie star or an accountant. As far as looks go, I don’t have any specifics. I don’t have a preference for blondes or brunettes.

Q. Do you have a celebrity crush?

A. I’ve worked with a lot of beautiful girls, but I’d have to say Amber Riley, who plays Mercedes in Glee. Have you heard her sing? She’s amazing.

Q. What will you miss most about Monte Carlo when you’ve finished filming?

A. The bread! The bread is delicious, I can get through a lot of that stuff. The way people treat each other here is very different too. There’s a kind of old world sensibility in Europe - people are refined and respectful and it’s very cool. In North America there’s a different attitude. Everything is faster and less personal.

Glee's Wedding Episode

For days now, I've been hearing so much about a wedding episode on Glee but I usually only get to see the short footage during commercial breaks on Jack TV. Finally, at 4 a.m. this morning, I chanced upon a replay of said episode. How lovely the wedding "march" was! Made me wish all weddings could be as joyful and un-boring as this is :)

Sing Like a Gleek!

I stumbled upon something in Twitter about Glee earlier. Somebody tweeted that she sang a Glee song using a cool application called Smule.

Curious, I checked out the website and found this: "Create and share songs with friends or sing with the Glee cast. Glee will correct your pitch and harmonize your voice while you sing." Wow, how very innovative!

I was impressed at the songs sung by various Glee fans (all over the world!) that I have listened to so far. Given a chance, I'd  like to try that application out for my, and my family's, personal entertainment. I think my husband would enjoy exercising his lungs LOL. Unfortunately, I don't own an iPhone or iPad --- yet (wishful thinking!) So I guess I'd just continue singing "Defying Gravity" and my other favorite Glee songs in the shower :)
