Giving Momentum to the Empowered Filipina

It's Women's Month this March. Celebrate your body, your mind, your choice!

Press Release:

The Filipina is one of the most empowered women in the world, with the Philippines ranking eighth out of 135 countries assessed by the 2012 Global Gender Gap Index of the World Economic Forum. This is the highest score the Philippines has attained in the last six years in terms of economic participation and opportunity, educational attainment, health and survival, and political empowerment.

The country tops educational attainment in terms of literacy and enrollment across all educational levels, as well as health and survival in terms of sexual ratio at birth and healthy life expectancy. However, a gender gap is seen in terms of economic participation and opportunity, specifically on earned income, senior positions, and leadership levels.

Continuing the momentum of the empowered Filipina is an advocacy of DKT Reproductive Health Inc. through its Trust reproductive health educational programs and Filipinay, its ongoing campaign to provide women with informed reproductive health choices. To celebrate women’s month, Filipinay will provide free consultations on reproductive health and family planning on March 6, 8, 9, 13, 15, 16, 20, 22, 27, and 29 at the EDSA, Baclaran, Doroteo Jose, and Roosevelt stations of LRT 1.

“Women have always had a primary role in Philippine society, but there is still much to improve, especially in providing women with access to information from which they can make responsible choices,” says Aileen Puzon, Product Manager of Filipinay. “While women are on equal footing in terms of education, this does not necessarily apply to information on the choices they can make about their bodies. We are one with all men and women in celebrating our successes for International Women’s Day, but we are also focused on our everyday task of reaching out, one Filipina at a time.”

Filipinay is the trusted partner in family planning, empowering women with information to help them make responsible choices.
