Promina Baby Food Now with Sangkap Pinoy Seal

Mommies with babies who are just starting to eat solid foods! Here's some info that you might find useful :)

Press Release:

Ecofoods Corp., the exclusive distributor of baby food, Promina, has announced that its products – Promina instant porridge and Promina baby cereal – now have the Sangkap Pinoy Seal by the Department of Health.

Part of the government’s food fortification program under the Philippine Food Fortification Act of 2000, the Sangkap Pinoy seal certifies that a product has the right nutritional value for the Filipino child such that it is enriched with essential micronutrients like Vitamin A and iron.

The World Health Organization (WHO) regional office for Europe recommends “mothers worldwide to exclusively breastfeed infants for the child’s first six months to achieve optimal growth, development and health. Thereafter, they should be given nutritious complementary foods and continue breastfeeding up to the age two years or beyond.”

Guest during the press conference was Nutritionist Dietitians’ Association of the Philippines past vice president Felicidad V. Velandria, RND who talked about the importance of Vitamin A and iron in a child’s diet and the problem of micronutrient deficiency among Filipino kids.

“Vitamin A and Iron play a big role in the nutrition of children in general,” Velandria said. “Case studies show that lack of these micronutrients leads to underheight and underweight children age 0 – 5 in the Philippines. Such cases are bound to increase if parents remain unaware of the cause and how to prevent this occurrence.”

Besides supporting the food fortification program, Promina also aims to address the country’s malnutrition crisis which, according to Food and Nutrition Research Institute, affects over 7 million children age 5 and below.

Most Filipino children are fed porridge (lugaw) during their weaning stage. But parents are unaware of the meal’s lack of nutrients. They also see complementary food as expensive and not important to a child’s diet.

Promina instant porridge and Promina baby cereal are ideal food supplements with their Sangkap Pinoy seal. They are affordable products with a wide range of flavors that help complete a child’s nutritional needs.

Movie Coming Soon: “Deep Gold” Goes Underwater in the Philippines

If you are watching the teleserye 100 Days to Heaven like I am, you'd already know how much a good actor Joel Torre is. It's not surprising then that Hollywood has gotten him to play a role in an interesting movie that's coming very soon. I'll definitely watch out for this one!

Press Release:

Hollywood’s underwater moviemaking technology streams with Philippines’ best locale in the upcoming actioneer “Deep Gold” from Bigfoot Entertainment starring international actresses Bebe Pham and Jaymee Ong. Joining them is Philippines’ Joel Torre in a very notable role.

Written and directed by Michael Gleissner, who’s also known for his award-winning work in “Irreversi,” “Deep Gold” is filmed entirely in the scenic islands of Cebu and Palawan where a champion free-diver Amy (Pham) and her sister Jess (Ong) are entrapped in a web of lies on the disappearance of a government plane carrying a fortune in gold. Amy then gets involved in a game of deceit as she seeks the truth on the disappearance of her boyfriend along with the fortune.

“Deep Gold” features eye-popping 3D action sequences, including spectacular underwater footage using the shooting tank located at Bigfoot facilities in Cebu. Gleissner, together with Rick Robinson, the film’s director of photography and an Emmy Award winner, leads us deep into the bottom of filming the movie under Philippine waters.

Working on a quality 3D film, Gleissner shares – “The Phillippines provided spectacular locations and was the ideal place to set the movie in, given the story. Filming on a tropical location that does not have a Hollywood-style film industry has some challenges. For example, we totally underestimated how much time it takes to shoot on boats, as the setup of equipment and lights are a lot more complicated.”

Robinson, on the other hand shares that this is his first time shooting underwater. “I am primarily concerned with lighting and underwater lighting, it reflects light differently than shooting on land, especially when it comes to water clarity. The complex process that is underwater filming required more than acute understanding of lighting. To achieve this for “Deep Gold,” Bigfoot had to train the crew, mostly Filipinos, to make these spectacular underwater scenes come to fruition. "The local Filipino crew underwent training to work with the underwater shooting because it requires specific knowledge that cannot be received anywhere else in the country," shares Robinson.

Although originally shot in 2D, Gleissner’s decision to convert the film into stereoscopic 3D is due to deeper engagement experience 3D brings to the audience. “Using 3D allows the audience to feel as though they are part of the action – turning them into participants instead of spectators. Now that 3D films are becoming mainstream, Gleissner predicts that within a few years it will become the norm to film in 3D. “With the cost of converting a film from 2D to 3D going down and the quality of conversion going up, a lot more independent films are able to utilize this. 3D makes films more competitive within the marketplace,” Gleissner concludes.

“Deep Gold’ opens in Philippine cinemas on August 31 from Bigfoot Entertainment.

Space Saving Solutions For The Modern Urban Home

Have you noticed that dwelling places seem to get smaller and smaller as real estate prices continue to soar in recent years? I have friends who now live in condo units and who lament over the limited spaces they can move around in every day.

Although my family lives in a typical bungalow-type house, we still need space-saving products to accommodate all the stuff that seem to multiply as years go by. Thus, I'm always on the lookout for solutions to conquer the diminishing spaces inside our home. Here, new products that may answer our space-saving dilemmas.

Press Release:

With the rising population of urban dwellers, more and more home and property developers are producing high-rise condominiums to meet the demand of availing the city lifestyle. While the traditional bungalows and residential properties in villages provide for more space with bigger lots, condo-dwellers are faced with the challenge of small spaces to house what a typical Filipino family brings in to the home. Stuff, stuff, and more stuff.

Newly-weds Grace and Joseph, 28 and 29, recently moved in to a 35 sq.m. condominium in Makati City. Grace works as a Marketing Assistant while Joseph is a Call Center Supervisor. As individuals coming together, each of them brings in personal belongings from their ancestral homes with the hope of making everything fit in their newly purchased home.

Like Grace and Joseph, many condo-dwellers or homeowners face the daunting task of constantly having to maximize their living space while trying to bring in and retain more stuff to make their homes as complete as possible.

“We see the need for solving small space challenges. We cannot stop the trend of high-rise condo living because it is also very effective especially for working professionals in the city who want to stay near where they work,” says, Thelma Alix, Vice President, 3M Philippines. “While this challenge is real and present, we want to help the typical Filipino family to make everything fit in these small spaces. The idea is to organize their walls and make organizing through hanging a habit,” Alix adds.

In order to maximize living spaces, the solution is wall organization. No need to utilize every floor area, if you could maximize the wall. Thus, it is essential to use hanging solutions that can provide the best space saving techniques with strong, handy, easy to use features while doing away with drilling holes that can cause more damage to walls and ceilings.

3M Philippines re-introduces the Command™ Brand, hanging solutions that offer a wide variety of products in home organizing and decorating. They hold strongly, remove cleanly, and lock in place without wall damage. Items could now be delegated for hanging instead of occupying more space thereby giving customers such as Grace and Joseph the freedom to customize small home spaces.

What separates Command™ from other products is its “unique” adhesive technology that can  be easily removed from walls without destroying them as opposed to drilling holes by using screws and hooks which are permanent and can cause damage. In addition, it is designed to be strong and secure, capable of holding up to different weight limits for every product categories. It is very simple to use and remove as well.

3M Philippines Consumer, Home and Office Business Division Head (the manufacturers of Command™) Vivian Faustino underscores the need for space saving hanging solutions for homes with limited spaces. “For every part of the home, Command™ has products that can let consumers hang their stuff easily. With its simple pull-tab strips coupled with easy instructions on how to use it, homeowners will worry no more on how to create more spaces,” she adds.

With 7 product categories covering every part of the home, (Decorative, Multi-Use, Home and Office Organizers, Cord Management, Picture Hanging Systems, Replacement Strips and Bathroom Solutions), Command ™ has all the product offerings and smart solutions for every part of the home. From designer medium hooks that can save space and can hang dustpans in the kitchen, to Sticky Sawtooth Nails that can hang heavier pictures or artworks for up to five pounds; smart and space saving hanging solutions are endless with every Command™ product.

Jean and Jennica Garcia Discover Versatility in Cream All

I had the pleasure of interviewing Jean Garcia for a cover story five years ago. I found her very pleasant to talk to because she has a great sense of humor. I also remember meeting Jennica at age 16 or 17. She hasn't entered show business yet at the time and was quite shy.

It's nice to see them now flourishing in their careers and being chosen as endorsers for several consumer products. I hope I get to feature them again one of these days in my other articles.

Press Release:

The ability to be versatile—to take on different roles—is one of the factors that make an actor successful. Powerhouse mother-daughter duo Jean and Jennica Garcia takes this to heart as they tackle different characters on the silver screen. This makes them the perfect endorsers of Universal Robina Corporation’s (URC) Cream All, the ultimate versatile creamer that can match not only coffee, but other beverages as well.

Jean Garcia is in a class of her own, masterfully playing roles that consistently leave audiences at the edge of their seats: “I love drama talaga pero minsan gusto ko rin yung light naman.” Jean’s versatility is showcased in the different projects she tackles: from an intimidating and scandalous antagonist like Madame Buenavista in Pangako sa ’Yo to the beautiful and dangerous sorceress Melina Azardon in Ilumina. At other times she is the sexy and funny mother in Cream All commercials where she stars alongside her daughter. Jennica is a rising ingénue who possesses many of her mother’s thespic strengths: “Pagdating sa acting, gusto ko i-explore lahat - comedy, drama. Gusto ko rin maging versatile.” Her fun roles as Joanna from Bantatay and as Lovely in Jejemom is a testament to her acting prowess at the young age of 21.

Working together in a local telenovela, Jean and Jennica continue to excite audiences with their dynamic charisma that goes beyond the set. “Iba kasi siyempre pag may chemistry na. Magkatinginan lang kami, nagkakaintindihan na without having to say anything,” explains Jean. They also take the closeness of their mother-daughter relationship to the Cream All commercials that they star in. For them, acting in a commercial comes without difficulties when the product is something they love. “It was fun because it didn’t feel like work. Di mo namamalayan yung oras. Super nabusog ako dun sa iba-ibang drinks that we tried,” shares Jennica about her taping experience.

Fans of coffee and tea, Jean and Jennica make their favorite drinks more flavorful and richer with the smooth goodness of Cream All. With zero gram trans fat, it allows the pair to add flavor to their lives while still maintaining their enviable figures.

Today, Jean and Jennica continue to showcase their outstanding versatility by working on different projects and playing various roles that come their way. Just like Jean and Jennica, food-lovers can also discover endless possibilities with the versatile and delicious goodness of Cream All, from a rich cup of coffee to other delectable beverages.

Rose Byrne plays “HELEN” in Paul Feig’s BRIDESMAIDS

Seen Bridesmaids yet? You have to! Check out my personal blog post about it here and also read my husband's review here (the male point-of-view).

Below is an interview Rose Byrne, one of the lead characters who plays the competitive Helen. To read the interview with Kristen Wiig, click here.

Press Release:

Rose Byrne would rather appear in a comedy than win an Oscar. The 31-year-old actress admits her career has changed dramatically since appearing in 'Get Him to the Greek' and 'Bridesmaids' and she loves the material she is now being offered. She said: "Doing 'Greek' and 'Bridesmaids' has been a massive turning point for me. "I'm Australian. I love humour. I come from a family that laughs a lot and my favourite films are comedies. "Some people want the Oscar and others want the big role. But I've always wanted to do comedy."

Rose's career floundered after she appeared in 'Troy' with Brad Pitt, and she admits her subsequent struggle to find work damaged her confidence. She added in an interview with The Times newspaper: "'Troy' was huge and yet I didn't work for a long time after it. That definitely affected my confidence." Rose recently spoke of how much fun she had working on 'Bridesmaids' with Kristen Wiig and Maya Rudolph. She said: "I think you can tell on the screen that we were having a lot of fun. Everyone has a glint in their eye."

The obvious first question is have you ever been a bridesmaid?

No, but I was a flower girl when I was 10.

What do you think of the whole bridesmaid ordeal, from buying the dresses to throwing the parties? Has it become overly commercialized?

No, I think it’s all relevant. When it is done for the right reasons, it can be quite poignant and beautiful. All of my girlfriends have gone through the wedding ritual, except for me. It is fascinating.

The film does seem to showcase every archetype of the potential bridesmaid.

It does. I know a Helen, as I am sure most people do. Annie Mumolo and Kristen Wiig, the writers, really wanted to show these representations and bring the comedy to it.

Did you all do any type of bonding before hand to get to know each other?

We had a rehearsal period, which was great, so we could improvise and just get to know each other. Kristen arranged a dinner for us and then we went to an all male strip revue on Hollywood Boulevard.

The research an actor has to do for their job…

I know (laughs). We did have a lot of fun.

Kristen Wiig is such a funny lady.

She is. She is quite private and shy. I am sure I am not the first to say that. She is very kind and very bright and so talented. She was so protective of all of us on set. We were all supportive when we felt someone was having a great moment. That was really nice.

In the film, there was that great first battle between you and Kristen over the microphone. How much of that was purely scripted and how much was organic out of the moment?

It was both. We had a scripted version and then we did improvisation. It was great fun, but it was hard for me to keep a straight face.

Your character Helen is quite competitive. Are you a competitive person?

Helen is very competitive. As for me, I don’t think I am competitive. I am ambitious, but not really competitive.

Helen is obviously the bad person of the piece, yet she never does anything malicious in the film.

She does give Kristen a sleeping pill and a glass of scotch. My first question when I took the part was how aware is Helen of her questionable behavior? That is what I needed to figure out. She does have some redeeming qualities at the end. For me, it was a challenge to play her.

Helen is pathologically lonely. She is competitive and has no real friends. She is a control freak and obsessed with Lillian. Helen is a very complicated character to play. I wanted to find out what made her tick. Everyone has a Helen in his or her life.

Did you tap into any particular Helen then to play this part?

I tapped into a few Helen’s in my life. I am not sure each will be able to recognize the fact I am using them.

Where do you see Helen in you?

I am a little bit of a control freak. Helen is so unaware of how badly she treats people. I am really aware of people.

After having done GET HIM TO THE GREEK and now BRIDESMAIDS, is comedy something you feel more comfortable concentrating on?

I have been enjoying doing the genre. In this film, most of those girls have a background with SATURDAY NIGHT LIVE or the Groundlings improvisational group. I come from another world altogether so even to be amongst those women was a real honor, yet terrifying.

Are you funny in real life?

I don’t think so. I am a good audience. Australians really find the humor in things, but I don’t do things that might bring the house down.

How did you adjust to improve then?

With GET HIM TO THE GREEK, we did a lot of improvising, so I learned how to break a scene down and go with the moment. Having to use an American accent made me go slower. These girls were incredible. I don’t know how much of the film was improvised, but we did a lot.

How do you feel when you hear this could be a female HANGOVER? We normally don’t see women do gross out humor and yet here it is showcased.

I don’t see the film as a female HANGOVER. It is about this woman’s life that falls apart and the wedding is merely a catalyst for it. Women like bawdy humor and will enjoy the fact that the women in this film really own it. I am really the straight man in the film against all these hilarious ladies. I believe men will enjoy this film, as well as women.

Helen talks in the movie about how we change through life. Do you think this is true?

I think we are essentially the same people that we were as ten year olds. I think we just evolve into better people. It is an interesting question, so maybe some people can and some cannot.

Kristen Wiig plays “Annie” in Paul Feig's BRIDESMAIDS

If you like watching funny movies, you shouldn't miss Bridesmaids. It will provide you with lots of laughs even after you've already left the cinema. Here I am, a few days after seeing the movie and I still can't help but smile when I remember the hilarious antics I've seen during the press screening. You can read my personal blog about Bridesmaids here.

Below is a Q and A with the star of the show ...

Press Release:

Kristen Wiig leads the cast as Annie, a maid of honor whose life unravels as she leads her closest friend, Lillian, and a group of colorful bridesmaids-Helen, Rita, Becca and Megan-on a wild ride down the road to matrimony.

Annie's life keeps coming up short. But when she discovers her lifetime best friend is engaged, she simply must serve as Lillian's maid of honor. Though lovelorn and broke, Annie dives into all of the required rituals as she gets to know the other ladies in the bridal party, including one particular rival (Helen) who is perfectly poised to fulfill all the duties that Annie struggles through. As she brings Lillian's bridesmaids along on an escalating series of disasters, Annie realises the person who knows her the best has introduced her to four strangers who will shake up her life for good.

What is BRIDESMAIDS about?

My character Annie goes through a little bit of self reflection and a little bit of a breakdown when her best friend gets married. It doesn’t help that the other people in the wedding are people that she feels she should be like. From the engagement to the wedding, they all go on a journey together.

What would you say was the most challenging scene for you in the movie?

Probably the airplane scene. Just knowing that I had to act like I was under the influence… That’s such a challenge for me because I’ve never really played drunk or high before. It had to look real and I was trying not to make it too silly. I had to make it seem real and had to do it in front of 40 extras, time after time. I didn’t really know what I was going to be doing that day, so I was the most nervous for that scene.

How long did it take before your dream of making BRIDESMAIDS into a movie, become a reality?

My writing partner and I started writing it over four years ago. After I did KNOCKED UP with Judd Apatow as a director, he asked me to write something that he could produce. I had always written with Annie. At The Groundlings (stand up theater in LA), we wrote a lot of stuff together. She was just the first person I thought of and I was like, ‘Do you want to write this with me?’ And she was like, ‘Yeah, I’ve been thinking of ideas. What about this thing where you are a bridesmaid and your best friend gets married, but it focuses sort of on your life falling apart, while you are trying to be happy for her.’ We also pulled from some of the experiences she had in weddings. We just kind of started there.

Was it an easy process?

We wrote the original script pretty quickly, mostly, because we had never written a movie before. We thought you just sit down and write it, and turn it in a week later. I think we literally worked on it for six days, and then sent it to Judd (laughs). He was like, ‘What is this?’ (laughs) We were like, ‘We are done; are we shooting it?’ That was over four years ago. So we definitely did a lot of rewrites and table reads, but the hardest thing was taking things out that you really like. Judd was right to warn us about how sometimes you can’t be too attached to things in the script, because if they don’t help the story, you’ve got to just let them go. We did get pretty good at that, but even then, it’s hard.

What scene would come to mind if you had to choose one clip from the film?

I would say one of my favorite scenes is when Rose Byrne and I are giving the speeches at the engagement party. Just that idea of wanting to have the last word, it’s kind of where I realized how close these two girls are. That was one of our earlier days in the shooting schedule, and it was one of the first days that we really got to play. I just remember thinking that night, this is going to be really fun.

Is it easier than people would think when it’s a bunch of girls together?

No, I guess in some situations. It would depend on the girls, but in this situation, the whole thing was a dream. We genuinely love each other and we still talk all the time. I mean, we got really close on this movie. We were so lucky.

How similar are you to your character?

I think there are definitely similarities between me and my character… I’ve probably dated a guy in my past that maybe I shouldn’t have (laughs). I think most women have dated that guy that they know doesn’t really feel the same way, but for some reason you just stick it out a week longer than you should. I have definitely related to her struggling financially, and being in a job that you know is not where you want to be.

Why should the audience go and watch BRIDESMAIDS?

I think you’ll laugh and a lot of the humor in it is pretty universal. You also get to see Jon Hamm from Mad Men with his shirt off…

That’s a seller!

Right? I think it has a lot of heart. Ultimately, it’s about female friendships, and I think that anyone can relate to that. It’s good for guys too and I think they will enjoy it as well.

Why do you think guys should go and watch BRIDESMAIDS with their wives or girlfriends?

I think for the same reason why girls enjoy comedies with guys starring in them. I think that sometimes funny is just funny and I don’t think that guys should stay away from it because it has women in it. It’s not going to be a bunch of jokes about women getting their periods and stuff. It’s just funny. It’s about real life, and I think there are definitely themes in the movie that guys will like and relate to as well…and there is puking in it (laughs).

We know that Jon Hamm can be funny. Did you have to persuade him to say yes to the project?

Well, we told him about it and I’m not sure if he read the whole script or not. He knew that there would be a lot of improvising. Jon knows Judd and we’ve known each other for a while, so I’m just grateful that he said yes (laughs).

What was the environment like on the set?

When we were on set shooting, it was us having fun, improvising, and having a good time. The work came before we started shooting, between scenes, and at the end of the day when we had to do rewrites and outlines for scenes…Ultimately, we did a lot of rehearsal beforehand and so when we started shooting, it wasn’t even like work. It was just like hanging out with your girlfriends all day. I hope I get to experience that again. It was really fun.

Did you spend time with your cast mates when you were not shooting?

A: Yes, we did, we spent a lot of time together. We all went out before we even started filming. We rented a party bus and went to a male strip club in LA… And then we went to a bar after that. It was the most fun night that I’ve had!

What’s a party bus?

A party bus is a large bus, you have a driver, and there are seats all around the perimeter with lights, drinks, and music. It’s basically like a room inside of a bus, and you just drive around. So we went to a male strip club and it was hilarious! It was amazing! It was so different than when a guy goes to a strip club.

Did you go onstage?

No, oh wait, actually I did go onstage (laughs). At the end of the show, you can go up and get a mini lap dance. But it’s so not the same ambiance as a strip club with female dancers, because here, we were laughing and screaming the entire time. The strippers were dressed up like the guys from TOP GUN or THE MATRIX, and it was a full show. It’s not full nudity or anything like that, it’s more of a performance.

So was the idea to bond before you started filming?

Exactly. It was such a great way for all of us to get to know each other too. Just being on the bus was so much fun, because we were all just talking, dancing and drinking. It was a great way to kick off the summer.

Have you kept in touch with everyone since the end of filming?

Oh yeah, all of them. In fact, we all just did a photo shoot together. It was the first time we were all together since shooting. We did the shoot and then immediately hung out afterwards because we wanted to see each other. We are all really good friends. I’m happy to say that they all had a good time shooting the film. At least that’s what they told me. It means so much to me to hear from them that it was a very welcoming and nurturing environment, and that they felt safe, it was just fun, and it didn’t feel like work. For me, that’s the biggest compliment I can get.

What would surprise people about you?

Probably that I’m a little quieter than people think I am, socially. I think people do have the perception that if you are on SNL (SATURDAY NIGHT LIVE) or if you are a comedic actress, that you are just always on all the time. I do find that some people sometimes look at me, like, ‘are you the same person?’ (laughs)

Are people expecting you to be funny?

Yeah, that happens a lot, in interviews especially. They kind of expect you to be telling funny stories, joking and talking in different voices. In a way you feel like you are disappointing them. I’m pretty quiet and I don’t go out that much, (laughs), but that’s just who I am.

Your last name, Wiig, is Scandinavian. Do you have close family there or is it from way, way back?

Yeah, it’s pretty far back. I have some Viking blood from Norway. That’s all I know (laughs).

Tom Felton’s After-Potter Role In “Rise Of The Planet Of The Apes”

One of the most popular and unforgettable antagonists in Harry Potter is the handsome boy with an ugly attitude. Tom Felton was very convincing as Draco Malfoy. But now that the HP series has ended, find out where this talented young actor would shine next ...

Press Release:

Harry Potter’s Tom Felton a.k.a. Draco Malfoy will next be seen in his post-Harry role in the upcoming event-movie “Rise of the Planet of the Apes.” His work in the “Rise of the Planet of the Apes” marks another inventive villainous turn following his role as the bullying Malfoy for which he was recently awarded an MTV Movie Award for Best Villain.

Will Rodman (James Franco) is a scientist working within a large pharmaceutical corporation conducting genetic research to develop a benign virus that restores damaged human brain tissue. He is committed to finding a cure for Alzheimer’s, a disease that afflicts his father, Charles (John Lithgow). Will’s relentless focus has precluded personal relationships, but the connection between his research and Charles’ illness brings the two together, albeit under difficult heart-rending circumstances. Just prior to the drug company’s commencement of human trials of a promising and potentially lucrative new drug, Will’s simian test subjects suddenly display bizarrely aggressive behavior. Management deems the research a failure and Will must shut down his program.

Amidst the confusion of the study’s sudden termination, Will finds himself charged with an overlooked newborn infant chimpanzee – a male, the newly orphaned offspring of his most promising test subject. That young chimp, destined for greatness, is named Caesar, played by capture-performance actor Andy Serkis, marks his greatest art-rending performance ever in CGI.

Will secretly raises young Caesar as his own, at home, while caring for his ailing father. “Will must now be a caretaker, not only to Charles, but to this baby chimp,” says Franco. “As the story progresses Will becomes more of a person and less of a scientist, and starts to care about Caesar more than the success of the drug.”
Over time, with the help of the drug, the chimp exhibits incredible cognitive skills and intellect. At the same time, Charles’ symptoms of Alzheimer’s miraculously go into remission. Will’s bending the rules of laboratory trials seems to have worked beyond his hopes.

However, as Caesar matures, his highly-developed intelligence is countered by the aggressive and dangerous protective instincts typical of adult male apes. Caesar soon becomes too much for Will. Though reluctant to part with Caesar, who has become like a son, Will takes Caesar to live among other apes within the confines of the San Bruno Primate Sanctuary. But unknown to Will, the “sanctuary” is more like a shoddily run prison – a dumping ground for unwanted or abandoned apes. It is run by Landon (Brian Cox, who starred in director Rupert Wyatt’s debut feature, the acclaimed The Escapist), and Landon’s son, Dodge, portrayed by Tom Felton.

In addition to presenting emotionally-engaging photo-realistic apes, the film’s setting is instantly recognizable and relatable. The movie is an origin story in the truest sense of the term. Set in present day San Francisco, the film is a reality-based cautionary tale, a science fiction/science fact blend, where man’s experiments with genetic engineering lead to the development of intelligence in apes and the onset of a war for supremacy.

The powerful and emotional battle that streamed out of the sanctuary’s abuses became a platform for the film’s most climactic scenes. Rupert Wyatt shares: “We wanted it be a ‘world-stops-spinning’ moment that plays into the whole idea of evolution and where that can take a species.” That defining instant leads to a daring escape, an epic confrontation at San Francisco’s Golden Gate Bridge, a wrenching and fateful reunion between Will and Caesar – and a revolution that will forever change the planet.”

In a recent chat with Total Film, Felton revealed he’s keen to further expand his range, to join Serkis in CGI circles. “I bored Andy for hours about how he got into it and how he came to be the godfather of it all,” said Felton “He talked me through a lot of it, and it’s something I’d like to look into. There’s so many scripts that you could have read 20 years ago and you’d have said ‘You can’t physically make that’ but now it’s an option - you can do things that weren’t really achievable.

“In this film you’re going to see such advances in the CGI that you’re going to look back at the old apes costumes and really think ‘that’s history’,” Felton shares.

*“Rise of the Planet of the Apes” opens August 4 in theaters from 20th Century Fox to be distributed by Warner Bros.

ANC's Tamano Perspective and View from the Top

Keep up with current issues. Listen, observe, then form your own opinions and take a stand.

Press Release:

Adel Tamano Joins Anc For ‘Tamano Perspective’

ANC, the ABS-CBN News Channel, gains another reputable name in its roster of credible anchors with the entry of Atty. Adel Tamano, a noted lawyer and educator.

Tamano will host the new current affairs talk show “Tamano Perspective,” which is set to debut this Thursday (July 14) at 7pm on ANC SkyCable channel 27. ANC will also premiere the new season of “View from the Top,” anchored by David Celdran, on Monday (July 11), 9:30pm.

Every week, Tamano will examine the latest news stories that can range from nationalism to family values and social media. But more than featuring a roundup of news, Tamano goes one step further by giving his opinion, as a lawyer and educator, on each story.

“There’s no fence-sitting allowed in the program. I'm not a journalist, I'm a lawyer and an advocate and so the show will reflect my training as a person who takes stands on issues. We want to present a point of view, a concrete and definite perspective on an issue, and we do this to encourage the viewer to take one as well,” Tamano explained.

A broadcasting greenhorn, Tamano said he sees his newest venture as a great way to learn new skills, expand his base of life experiences, and more importantly, to find new ways of being of service to the people.

“I've always valued intelligent public debate and discussion and I saw anchoring a TV program as a way to bring some of that to the Philippine public,” he said.

Tamano, the first Filipino Muslim to graduate from Harvard Law School, is currently the Dean of the College of Law at the Liceo de Cagayan University. He is also a partner at the Kapunan, Tamano, Javier & Associates

The 40-year-old son of former Sen. Mamintal Tamano figured prominently in the last two elections, in 2007 as the spokesperson of the United Opposition and last year as a candidate for the Senate.

Tamano said his knowledge and firsthand experience of campaign politics gives him an advantage in his new job.

“I won't be a naive anchor discussing matters that I haven't seen or experienced. I've been given a rare peek into the inner workings of power at the very highest levels of government. In a way, I'm a veteran - though young in age - in political experience and I hope to be able to use that experience so that I can provide better insight and analysis for our viewers,” he said.

David Celdran returns with new season of “View from the Top”

Meanwhile, one of ANC’s senior anchors David Celdran returns with another season of “View From the Top,” a 30-minute feature on personalities at the top of their game.

The show aims to raise the bar of excellence in every endeavor by highlighting the discipline and ethic of renowned leaders and icons. It also talks about the lighter side of living on the top, revealing how bigwigs spend their free time to what causes or advocacies they adopt or support.

This season, the 20-year-broadcasting veteran gets to interview some of the country's icons like construction legend David Consunji of DMC Inc., advertising guru Emily Abrera, the chair emeritus of McCann Ericsson Philippines, beauty doctor to the stars Dr. Vicki Belo of the Belo Medical Group, and Diosdado Banatao, the only Filipino major player in Silicon Valley.

Celdran also anchors “Executive Class” on ANC and is the editor-in-chief of VAULT magazine, a luxury and lifestyle magazine for men.

Don’t miss “View From the Top” with David Celdran on Monday (July 11), 9:30 pm and the “Tamano Perspective” with Atty. Adel Tamano on Thursday (July 14) at 7pm on ANC SkyCable channel 27.

Join the HWH Pencil Project and Help Raise 10,000 Pencils for Kids

Education is a basic need. It is a right and not a privilege. Please help this worthwhile advocacy. Read on to find out how.

Press Release:

A pencil is just a small tool. But like all tools, it can be very powerful. Do you know what a pencil can really do?

* In the hands of artists, our minds are exposed to beauty.
* In hands of inventors, our lives have been improved.

Now, can you imagine if we give a child a pencil and see what he can do?

The HWH Pencil Project is a digital signature campaign through the combined efforts of Dynamic Teen Company (DTC) and Hotelwithheart.com (HWH). The aim of this campaign is to raise 10,000 pencils to support DTC's "Kariton Klasrum Project". Through this endeavor, children in the slum areas will get a decent supply of pencils to help them learn the basics of writing, reading and arithmetic.

How can you help?

All Facebook account holders can take part in this campaign by simply filling-up the sign up form in HWH's Facebook page. HotelwithHeart.com will donate one pencil to DTC's "Kariton Klasrum Project" for every digital signature collected. One successful digital signature is equivalent to one pencil and one happy child.

Movie Coming Soon: Cowboys and Aliens

I first heard about this movie a couple of years ago from the Robert Downey Jr. fans' grapevine. At the time, RDJ was being rumored to play a role in Cowboys and Aliens but had to back out. From further reading, I gathered that RDJ chose to work on the Sherlock Holmes sequel instead.

Anyhow, even with Iron Man out, James Bond and Indiana Jones are there to save the day so this must still be a good film to look forward to :) Besides, Jon Favreau is directing.

Press Release:

1873. Arizona Territory. A stranger with no memory of his past stumbles into the hard desert town of Absolution. The only hint to his history is a mysterious shackle that encircles one wrist. What he discovers is that the people of Absolution don’t welcome strangers, and nobody makes a move on its streets unless ordered to do so by the iron-fisted Colonel Dolarhyde. It’s a town that lives in fear.
But Absolution is about to experience fear it can scarcely comprehend as the desolate city is attacked by marauders from the sky. Screaming down with breathtaking velocity and blinding lights to abduct the helpless one by one, these monsters challenge everything the residents have ever known.

Now, the stranger they rejected is their only hope for salvation. As this gunslinger slowly starts to remember who he is and where he’s been, he realizes he holds a secret that could give the town a fighting chance against the alien force. With the help of the elusive traveler Ella, he pulls together a posse comprised of former opponents – townsfolk, Dolarhyde and his boys, outlaws and Apache warriors – all in danger of annihilation. United against a common enemy, they will prepare for an epic showdown

Fresh off the success of Iron Man 2, director Jon Favreau takes on Cowboys and Aliens. Starring Daniel Craig and Harrison Ford – as the leads in the sci-fi-meets-western romp. It additionally features a top-notch supporting cast that includes Olivia Wilde along with Sam Rockwell and Noah Ringer.

*"Cowboys and Aliens" is released and distributed by United International Pictures through Solar Entertainment Corp.

Movie Coming Soon: The Change-Up

If you haven't gotten enough of Ryan Reynolds in Green Lantern, here's another movie you can see him in :)

Press Release:

Growing up together, Mitch (Ryan Reynolds) and Dave (Jason Bateman) were inseparable best friends; but as the years have passed they’ve slowly drifted apart. While Dave is an overworked lawyer, husband and father of three, Mitch has remained a single, quasi-employed man-child who has never met a responsibility he liked. To Mitch, Dave has it all: beautiful wife Jamie (Leslie Mann), kids who adore him, and a high-paying job at a prestigious law firm. To Dave, living Mitch’s stress free life without obligation or consequence would be a dream come true.

Following a drunken night out together, Mitch and Dave’s worlds are turned upside down when they wake up in each other’s bodies and proceed to freak the *#@ out.

Despite the freedom from their normal routines and habits, the guys soon discover that each other’s lives are nowhere near as rosy as they once seemed. Further complicating matters are Dave’s sexy legal associate, Sabrina (Olivia Wilde), and Mitch’s estranged father (Alan Arkin). With time not on their side, Mitch and Dave comically struggle to avoid completely destroying each other’s lives before they can find a way to get their old ones back.

* “The Change-Up” will be distributed and released in theaters soon by United International Pictures through Solar Entertainment Corp.
