Spotify Attributes Strong Growth in the Market to Music-Loving Pinoys

It's not surprising to know that Filipinos helped strengthen Spotify's presence. We are such a music-loving nation :)

Press Release:

High level of engagement with the service as evidenced by over one million playlists created by music fans barely three months after launch
Millennials aged 18-24 comprise 56% of Spotify’s users in the country
Almost 80% of music-loving Pinoys use mobile to stream their favorite songs

Spotify, the world’s most popular music streaming service, reveals its strong hold in the Philippine market with over a million playlists created by music fans just three months after the service launched.

“We are pleased to reveal that the Philippines is one of our fastest-growing markets in the region,” says Sunita Kaur, Managing Director of Spotify Asia. The impressive growth is largely attributed to the high engagement of music fans on the service, 56% of whom are made up of Millennials aged 24 and under. “We hope to become the best alternative to music piracy in the country as we offer Pinoys free and legal access to over 30 million tracks,” she adds.

Spotify’s mobile-first strategy has also played a key role in growing its user base in the region, with the Philippines leading the way in music streaming on mobile. Almost 80% of Filipinos favour their phones over computers to listen to their favorite hits, a clear indicator that music fans in the market are very tech savvy when it comes to music streaming on the go.

Mobile music streaming growth is further reinforced by Spotify’s partnership with the country’s leading telecommunications provider, Globe Telecom. As Globe Telecom’s Chief Operating Advisor Peter Bithos shares, "Our partnership with Spotify has given our customers one of the best mobile experiences to date.”

Spotify is bundled for free with Globe’s consumable data plan GoSURF, allowing Globe, TM and Tattoo Prepaid customers to enjoy mobile data for as low as Php 15 and access Spotify’s massive music catalogue without using up their GoSURF mobile internet allowance. “To date, majority of our customer base now prefer GoSURF for more value for their money and to enjoy their playlists on Spotify,” Mr. Bithos adds.

On top of growth figures, Spotify offers further insights on Pinoy music fans. “Our latest data confirms that Pinoys take pride in their homegrown artists,” says Ms. Kaur. With Eraserheads and Sarah Geronimo topping the list of the most streamed local artists, Spotify’s extensive, free and mobile music library has paved the way for OPM artists to reach out to many more music fans. Meanwhile, Boyce Avenue, Katy Perry and Ed Sheeran rank amongst Filipinos’ international favorites on Spotify.

Now available in 57 markets worldwide, Spotify launched in Asia in 2013 and introduced the service to Filipinos in April this year. With exciting new features being added to the music service all the time, Spotify aims to continue offering an unbeatable music experience to Pinoy music fans.
