Blown Away

A friend of mine posted a nice poem-like writeup in her Facebook notes. The first two paragraphs go like this:

It doesn’t interest me what you do for a living.
I want to know what you ache for
and if you dare to dream of meeting your heart’s longing.

It doesn’t interest me how old you are.
I want to know if you will risk looking like a fool
for love for your dream for the adventure of being alive.

At the bottom, I discovered that the title of this piece is "The Invitation". Be inspired by reading the rest of the poem by Oriah here.

Great Reminder for Drivers!

I was once given a sticker that said, "We Love You Daddy, Drive Home Safely." I suddenly remembered that when I saw this video. True, if we really love our family, we must always take precautions when driving. Always putting on one's seatbelt is one of the best tips to car safety.

Watch this nice video that shows how thinking of one's family via the use of a car seatbelt can save one's life.

We were all young once

This is an old photo of a famous dad and his equally famous daughter. Can you guess who they are?

Here's a better clue ...

To find out the answer, check out this link where lots of old photos of various celebrities are posted. I think you'll also be as fascinated as I was when you scroll down each picture :)

Amazing Video

Watch and, if you get curious how they did this video, read more below ...

Fun Facts:
  • The video was shot all stills - roughly 3225 still photos for the entire video, using one camera, hanging from the ceiling for the main body of the movie.
  •  It took 4 weeks before shooting to create an animated computer generated storyboard for the video, with 3d dummies for the characters.
  • It took only 2 days of shooting for the live actors on set to re-create the 3.5 minutes computer sequence, frame by frame.
  • Some of the bed sheets used in the video were taken from Oren’s own bedroom and are now considered collectors items, worth at the moment not very much and therefore used as bed sheets.
  • Each of the wonderfully talented people above have worked on the video for a fraction of their normal rates (except Oren who worked for his normal rate of zero).
For more facts and info, go straight to Oren Lavie's blog and read the whole writeup called "Everything you wanted to know about HER MORNING ELEGANCE video" there :)

Something humans should learn from

It's Valentines Day ... so let's talk a bit about relationships. Did you know ...

... according to the Huffington Post, there are certain species of animals that are monogamous (they only have one partner for life).

These creatures are wiser than what we give them credit for. I hope people who have a lot of complications in life (read: those who get involved in simultaneous relationships) would learn from these animals.

Check out this link to see which animals made the monogamous list.

A Combat Mindset

I was researching material for one of the write ups I'm doing and came upon this site. Here, the author talks about realistic self-defense and the importance of having a combat mindset.

These parts struck me:

The biggest advantage of the combat mindset is in knowing that your actions are necessary and legally justified. Many conflicts take place in which at least one of the participants isn’t totally sure about what he’s doing and wondering if he’s going to get in trouble or not.

Your chances of successfully “defending” yourself are vastly increased when you’re not hindered by thoughts of whether or not what you’re doing is justified. When you know that you’re justified, you will act without hesitation or any second thought.

Food for thought indeed ... Read the rest of the article here.

Fascinating!

Did you know?

  • Women speak about 7000 words a day. The average man averages just over 2000.
  • You're more likely to die on your way to buy a lottery ticket than you are to actually win the lottery.
  • Michael Jordan makes more money from Nike annually than all of the Nike factory workers in Malaysia combined.

Read more"facts" (well, I'm not really sure how accurate they are so I'm still holding my breath) like these at this website. Even if some of the entries turn out to be untrue (got to really research about them first .... when I have time!), they make for entertaining reading :)

We Are The World 25

After a quarter of a century, the song, We Are The World, has finally been re-recorded. Here's praying this new version will be able to also raise as much funds for Haiti as the first one had so that more people who desperately need help could get it.

I'm looking forward to hearing this!
