“ANONYMOUS” Exclusive at Ayala Malls Cinemas Starting April 18

Columbia Pictures' Oscar-nominated thriller “Anonymous” will be shown exclusively at Ayala Malls Cinemas (Glorietta 4, Greenbelt 3 and Trinoma) starting Wednesday, April 18.

Directed by Roland Emmerich from the script by John Orloff, “Anonymous” stars Rhys Ifans, Vanessa Redgrave, Joely Richardson, David Thewlis, Xavier Samuel, Sebastian Armesto, Rafe Spall, Edward Hogg, Jamie Campbell Bower, and Derek Jacobi.

The film speculates on an issue that has for centuries intrigued academics and brilliant minds such as Mark Twain, Charles Dickens, and Sigmund Freud, namely: who actually created the body of work credited to William Shakespeare?

Experts have debated, books have been written, and scholars have devoted their lives to protecting or debunking theories surrounding the authorship of the most renowned works in English literature. 

“Anonymous” poses one possible answer, focusing on a time when scandalous political intrigue, illicit romances in the Royal Court, and the schemes of greedy nobles lusting for the power of the throne were brought to light in the most unlikely of places: the London stage.

It might not seem that Roland Emmerich – best known as the director of the epic blockbusters “Independence Day,” “The Day After Tomorrow” and “2012” – would necessarily choose as his next project a story set in Elizabethan England. However, for nearly ten years, he has wanted to make a film with the Shakespeare authorship question as a backdrop – a yearning that is fulfilled with “Anonymous.”

Screenwriter John Orloff says he had been fascinated by the Shakespeare authorship question since first learning about the controversy as a 25-year-old graduate student 20 years ago. “My first thought was, ‘Why had no one told me this?!’” he says. “My second thought was that this would make a fantastic film. It had everything – murder, sex, lies, betrayal – truly the stuff of Shakespearean drama.”

In writing that story, Orloff centered around the idea of two writers – Shakespeare, the front man, and the true writer, behind the curtain. “Ben Jonson wrote the introduction to the first folio, the first official published plays of Shakespeare – he writes this beautiful, beautiful poem dedicated to Shakespeare who by that point, had been dead for several years. But if you read other Jonson works, some shorter poems or some of his plays, he’s not quite so laudatory of Shakespeare and his poems actually make fun of him and are very angry with him. It made me think that Jonson was talking about two different people – one, the true poet, and the other, a fraud.”

Emmerich was immediately receptive to Orloff’s idea – and the director had some big ideas that he felt the story could support. “The script is very much about the relationship between Ben Jonson, William Shakespeare, and Edward De Vere – that is very much the heart of the movie – but I felt it just needed a little more than that. I asked myself, ‘What was the most important thing in that era?’ and it was clearly succession” – the question of who would follow the heirless Elizabeth on the throne.

“I had a little story about art and jealousy,” says Orloff, “and with that suggestion, Roland wanted to propel the script into a whole new dimension of dramatic possibility.”

Enchanted Kingdom Wizards Club is coming this April!

There is something more to be excited about this coming April at Enchanted Kingdom. The leading theme park in the country is cooking up something big and exciting for all the kids from 6 to 12 years old and teens from 13 to 18 years old, in the upcoming pre-launch activities of the Enchanted Kingdom Wizards Club (EKWC). This is not wizardry, but definitely something more magical.

EKWC is an organization which supports and develops youth programs designed for leadership, values formation, cultural appreciation, learning skills, and the performing arts. With EKWC, Enchanted Kingdom hopes to offer an organization for the youth that will help them reach their full potential.

A preview of EKWC this summerific month of April!

To start off, Enchanted Kingdom is going to host a fun-filled Easter Sunday on April 8 for kids and teens. The Easterrific Egg Hunt for kids 6-12 years old and the EKstremely EGGciting Race for teens 13-18 years old are simultaneous activities which will be the most exciting egg hunt one will ever experience. The registration for this activity starts at 11:00 AM, Egghunt follows at 2:00 PM and the awarding of winners at 5:00 PM. It’s going to be the most interesting and exciting activity this Lenten season for the park guests this coming Easter Sunday.

As part of the pre-launch of the EKWC, Faber Castell partners with EKWC through a series of art workshops which will kick off on April 20 and will run on all Fridays of April and May. Kids and teens will surely make their friends and family proud with an art exhibit to culminate their summer art workshops. Kids will surely enjoy and learn from the activities because EKWC and Faber Castell has a lot of artistic and magical activities in store for them.

To make the kids and teens more excited, EKWC and Tender Juicy Hotdogs will host the EKWC Magical Kiddie Chef Challenge at Enchanted Kingdom. 30 lucky kids age 6-13 years old will get the chance to show their expertise in cooking on April 28.

Electrolux Design Lab’s 10th Anniversary challenge to international design students is tied to Electrolux professional heritage in a theme that stimulates all senses.

Electrolux Design Lab is a global annual design competition inviting students and recent graduates of industrial design to compete for a six-month paid internship and prize money by submitting ideas that develop the sensory experience of home appliances. This year the jury will also take special note of the aesthetic qualities of the concept and the way textures and surface materials have been used.

Brief: Design Experience

As demonstrated in the Cube by Electrolux, the world of professional cooking is all about the experience. It’s not about achieving the perfect inner temperature of a steak for the sake of science or performance. It’s about designing the best possible experience for your guests. The creative force behind the experience is the merger of intuitive and innovative appliances with the creativity of the chef and carefully selected high quality ingredients.

The brief for Electrolux Design Lab 2012 challenges design students to draw inspiration from professional experience creators (chefs, architects, interior designers, hotel designers etc.) to design home appliances that will provide a fuller sensory experience. It might be through state of the art technology or it might be through a clever blend of textures and surfaces

Entrants will also need to consider the heritage of Electrolux. Submissions should reflect Scandinavian Design values by being sensitive to the environment, providing intuitive ease of use and aesthetic appeal

“I believe the importance of our sensory perception is underestimated in a lot of today’s design. Too much importance is accorded to the visual. What if we could incorporate our other senses into design? Could we smell who’s calling? Or feel what’s on TV?” says Henrik Otto SVP of Global Design at Electrolux.

Autumn finals in Europe

Eight finalists will each be invited to participate in a final event in the autumn of 2012 held within a European city (to be announced) to present their individual concept to a jury of expert designers. The jury will consider entries based on intuitive design, innovation, aesthetic qualities and consumer insight when awarding the first prize of a six-month paid internship at an Electrolux global design centre and 5,000 Euros. A second prize of 3,000 Euros and third prize of 2,000 Euros are also on offer.

Charice Takes Home Favorite Asian Act Award at Nickelodeon’s 25th Annual Kids’ Choice Awards

The Philippines also has reason to celebrate the Nickelodeon Kids’ Choice Awards because international singing sensation Charice has captured the inaugural Favorite Asian Artist Award, fending off some of the region’s hottest music stars including Korea’s global girl group Wonder Girls, Agnes Monica of Indonesia, and Yuna of Malaysia. "Millions of Charice's fans voted online, on mobile, on Facebook and on Twitter, showing us not only how popular she is across Asia, but also how active Nickelodeon’s audience in Asia is online,” said Syahrizan Mansor, Senior Director, Programming & On-Air, Nickelodeon SEA. “We couldn’t be happier for her or her fans, and congratulate Charice for winning the inaugural Favorite Asian Artist Awards.

The First Lady of the US Michelle Obama presented The Big Help Award to Taylor Swift. BURBANK, CA — Marvel Music/Hollywood Records announce the return of Soundgarden with the release of the band’s first all new song in 15 years, “Live to Rise.” The song will be featured in the end credits to this year’s highly anticipated movie, “Marvel’s The Avengers.”

“Live to Rise” is included on Avengers Assemble, a 14-track compilation of music from and inspired by the film. Avengers Assemble will be released on May 1, 2012.

Soundgarden stated, "We've been hard at work on our new album, which will come out this Fall. When the opportunity arose to write an original song for ‘Marvel's The Avengers’ film, we thought it could be a cool match. We are excited to release our new song 'Live To Rise,' which is also the only new song in the film. Here's a taste. Loudest of Love." 

Also, The Avengers original motion picture soundtrack, with score by Oscar®-nominated and Grammy-winning composer Alan Silvestri (“Captain America: The First Avenger,” “Forrest Gump,” the “Back to the Future” trilogy) will be available at online retailers on May 1, 2012.

With over 21 million records sold worldwide, Soundgarden redefined rock music for a whole generation and had a revolutionary impact on the course of musical history. At the dawn of 2010, the band, Chris Cornell, Matt Cameron, Kim Thayil and Ben Shepherd, announced a new beginning. In the last two years since Soundgarden has reunited, they have headlined festivals, toured the world and released their first retrospective titled Telephantasm which included the previously unreleased song, “Black Rain” and their first live album, Live on I-5. Celebrate the music of best-known Philadelphia soul group of the 1970s as That’s Ntertainment Productions, in cooperation with ABS-CBN, present THE STYLISTICS Live in Manila happening on April 12, 2012, 8pm at Smart Araneta Coliseum. Their special guests are Rico J. Puno and Elizabeth Ramsey.

The Stylistics have been recording and touring for almost forty years and enjoyed twelve straight Top 10 hits from 1971-1974. These include their stellar debut "Betcha by Golly, Wow", "Stop, Look, Listen (To Your Heart)", "You Are Everything", "I'm Stone in Love with You", "Break Up to Make Up", and the shimmering sweet soul ballad "You Make Me Feel Brand New". Their early 70s work with producer Thom Bell and his collaborator, lyricist Linda Creed yielded some of the most popular love songs of that era.

Known for their sleek, soulful Philadelphia sound, this quartet has been performing for nearly 40 years and became a worldwide-favorite for their showmanship, harmony and style. Formed in 1968, The Stylistics was originally comprised of lead Russell Thompkins, Jr., Herbie Murrell, Airrion Love, James Smith, and James Dunn. After the original group disbanded in the 80s, Love, Murrell, and Thompkins continued to tour until 2000 and brought in two new members from one set of the Delfonics - Harold Eban Brown as lead singer, and tenor Van Fields who also sang with an a cappella group called A Perfect Blend. In 2011, Fields departed and was replaced with Jason Sharpe (formerly with Heatwave).

In 2008 they recorded their latest album, That Same Way. The new album marks as their first album of new material this century but still filled with sweet soul spirit that initially made The Stylistics famous. Their song, "People Make the World Go Round", was used by Spike Lee in the soundtrack for 1994 film Crooklyn, as performed by Marc Dorsey.

PETER BERG (Hancock, The Kingdom, Friday Night Lights) directs and produces Battleship, an epic-scale action-adventure that unfolds across the seas, in the skies and over land as our planet fights for survival against a superior force.

Battleship stars TAYLOR KITSCH (X-Men Origins: Wolverine, John Carter) as Lieutenant Alex Hopper, a naval weapons officer assigned to USS John Paul Jones; ALEXANDER SKARSGÅRD (HBO’s True Blood, Melancholia) as Hopper’s older brother, Stone, Commanding Officer of USS Sampson; global music superstar RIHANNA, making her motion-picture debut as Petty Officer Second Class Cora Raikes, Hopper’s crewmate and a weapons specialist on USS John Paul Jones; BROOKLYN DECKER (Just Go With It) as Sam Shane, Hopper’s fiancée and a physical therapist specializing in the rehabilitation of military combat veterans; TADANOBU ASANO (Thor, upcoming 47 Ronin), as Captain Yugi Nagata, Commanding Officer of the Japanese destroyer Myoko and Hopper’s archrival; and LIAM NEESON (The Grey, Taken) as Hopper and Stone’s superior (and Sam’s father), Admiral Shane, Commander of the Pacific Fleet.

Inspired by Hasbro’s classic naval-combat game, Battleship is produced by BRIAN GOLDNER and BENNETT SCHNEIR of Hasbro (the Transformers and G.I. Joe franchises), SCOTT STUBER (Safe House, Couples Retreat), Film 44’s SARAH AUBREY (The Kingdom), along with DUNCAN HENDERSON (Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World, The Perfect Storm). The action-adventure is written by JON HOEBER and ERICH HOEBER (Red).

In assembling his team, Berg turned to a seasoned group of movie veterans, many with whom he has previously collaborated. They include director of photography TOBIAS SCHLIESSLER (Friday Night Lights, Hancock); production designer NEIL SPISAK (Hancock, Spider-Man); film editors COLBY PARKER, JR. (Friday Night Lights, Hancock), BILLY RICH (American Gangster, Robin Hood) and PAUL RUBELL (Transformers, Hancock); and costume designer LOUISE MINGENBACH (Hancock, The Hangover). Executive producers are JONATHAN MONE (The Wolfman) and BRADEN AFTERGOOD.

For the film’s spectacular visual effects, Berg recruited a pair of movie magicians from the renowned ranks of the award-winning Industrial Light and Magic—PABLO HELMAN (War of the Worlds, Star Wars: Episode II—Attack of the Clones) and GRADY COFER (There Will Be Blood, Star Trek). Special effects were mastered by Academy Award® winner BURT DALTON (The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, Star Trek).

Battleship filmed primarily on location in Honolulu, Hawaii, and received unprecedented support from the U.S. Navy throughout production. The Navy allowed the motion-picture crew to visit several Arleigh Burke-class destroyers while in Pearl Harbor—USS Hopper (DDG 70), temporarily moored in Pearl Harbor, as well as USS Preble (DDG 88) and USS Chung-Hoon (DDG 93), both home ported in Hawaii. Additionally, the production was able to visit Chung-Hoon at sea, which allowed cast and crew to view the sailors as they trained.

MANILA, Philippines — 2012 is proving to be a great year for the Manila concert scene as Audio Mustachio and Kerplunk! Productions bring over one of the most celebrated international rock acts of the past decade, Taking Back Sunday.

Recently reuniting with the original line-up for an all-new, self-titled record and a 10th anniversary tour of their debut album Tell All Your Friends, the band will play live for the first time in Manila on April 13, 8 p.m. at the Sky Dome in SM City North EDSA—the only Asian stop on their tour this year after touring Australia and heading out to the UK after Manila to headline the eagerly-anticipated Slam Dunk Festival.
