Cenovis Fish Oil: A Healthier Start to 2012

Find out the benefits of fish oil and how to live healthier this 2012!

Press Release:

Every time a new year begins, we are filled with new hope. As a result, we make promises to better ourselves. Here are a few of the most popular new year’s resolutions: lose more weight, eat intelligently, quit smoking, drink less alcohol, start biking, run more or love myself more. However you look at it, essentially, most resolutions point toward living a healthier life today.

The fundamentals of a healthy life revolve around adopting a more active lifestyle through exercise or sports and sticking to a good balanced diet. A balanced diet refers to having the proper amounts of carbohydrate, protein, fat (also known as macronutrients), vitamins and minerals (also known as micronutrients). The modern Filipino diet, regrettably, is too sweet or salty, too rich in carbohydrates and saturated fat. Couple that with a lack of physical activity, and you become a candidate for any of today’s common medical conditions.

Now is the time to be true to your new year’s resolutions. To achieve that balanced diet, one of the things you can easily do is to make fish a big part of your new dietary plan. Fish is a good source of protein and contains many nutrients. Oily fish in particular is known to be high in Omega-3 fatty acids. According to the Omega-3 Academy Asia, omega-3 fatty acids are a type of polyunsaturated “good” fat, notably, docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) and eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) that are important to our health, mainly in helping prevent heart disease and for proper brain function and development. It is also widely known to ensure proper blood circulation, keep the eyes healthy and aid in controlling inflammation due to arthritis, post-surgery, infection, and others. Getting enough amounts of Omega-3 is also correlated with enhancing one’s mood, preventing depression and anxiety. It has some evidence to show that it can help maintain good skin and provide protection against cancer.

The thing is, the human body is incapable of producing the necessary levels of omega-3 fatty acids, EPA and DHA. It must be obtained from the food we eat, particularly, fatty or oily fish.

The healthy “oily fish” list includes salmon, mackerel, trout, herring, and sardines. International guidelines recommend that an adult should consume 500 milligrams of omega-3 per day. Targeting at least 2 to 3 portions of fish per week can help you achieve this.

But in cases where fish meals are not available or you eat very little of it, the Australian brand Cenovis Fish Oil is a convenient quality substitute. Taking one Cenovis Fish Oil capsule everyday, provides your body the optimal amounts of Omega-3 that is essential to your diet.

Affordably priced at only 10 pesos per capsule, Cenovis fish oil is extracted from the Peruvian waters, one of the cleanest seas in the world. Because it is individually packed for freshness using a highly-advanced extraction process in Norway, each soft gel capsule is odorless and has no fishy aftertaste.

For more information about the benefits of omega-3, visit the Omega3 Academy Asia website: www.omega3academy.com.

KASPERSKY LAB: Keep Your Valentine's Day Spam-Free

Here are some very timely tips from the world's largest privately-held Internet Security company ...

Press Release:

While lovers prepare their romantic treats for Valentine's Day, spammers find it perfect timing to get to work, according to a security expert at leading secure content and threat management solutions developer Kaspersky Lab.

As early as January, users started receiving spam mail-outs offering presents for the romantic occasion --- since spammers want a whole six weeks to reap the benefits of this yearly occasion.

Kaspersky Lab Senior Spam Analyst Maria Namestnikova said in an entry in the official company blog Securelist, that "spammers look for a way to attract the attention of users, for example using in the subject line and in the body of the text of a mail-out message 'attractive' words that prompt users to open a message.“

She said the newest of such "attractors" in the spammer world has become the word "coupon". She explained that this is often simply substituted for the word "discounts" to attract attention to goods and services.

Namestnikova revealed that another promotion tactic that companies use is "coupon spam" where companies put their offerings on a coupon service and then via spam advertise them to try and reach a bigger audience.

However, the security analyst observed that it's not very effective. "The level of trust in firms which advertise via spam is very low. Plus, users’ annoyance normally only cancels out any advantages from using such methods instead of increasing it," she said.

Use of coupon services is a completely legitimate method of advertising. But Namestnikova advised against buying deals through discounted coupon saying "coupon services popularity brings with it potential threats of phishing attacks."

"Phishers can be interested in users who have funds in their accounts with a coupon service --- funds which they can spend immediately when an offer takes their fancy," she said.

Namestnikova shared these three simple rules to avoid falling into the trap of spammers and phishing attacks:

1. Don’t open e-mails from coupon services to which you aren’t registered in. First, this secures you against phishing attacks or mail-outs of malicious code. Second, if a spammer’s e-mail turns out to be simply a commercial offer, you reduce the number of responses, making the work of the spammers less profitable.

2. If in an e-mail from a coupon service to which you are registered asked you to verify your account via a link or to some other way present your login and password - don’t do this under any circumstances. Remember that large organizations never ask you to send your login and password via e-mail. Any such request must be considered as an attempt at stealing your account.

3. If you get a message from a large service stating that you’ve obtained some coupons, when in fact you never ordered any, don’t open the message, and more importantly, don’t download anything via the e-mail. There is a high probability that what you do will be malicious.

Rediscovering The Love Story in “THE VOW”

It's always nice to know the back story to movies inspired by real lives. Read this heartwarming one ...

Press Release:

In Columbia Pictures' new, poignant romantic drama “The Vow,” Paige (Rachel McAdams) and Leo (Channing Tatum) are a young married couple, madly in love and living fulfilling lives as artists in Chicago. One snowy night, the two fall victim to a car accident. Leo survives intact, but a head trauma erases Paige’s entire memory of her relationship with her husband. When she comes out of her coma, Leo is a stranger to her.

Suddenly Leo finds himself in the painful position of rebooting the relationship he’s waited his whole life for, and win his wife's love all over again. Paige has reverted mentally to the young law student she was five years earlier, before she met Leo and became an artist. In seemingly an instant, she is no longer the wife Leo knew, and on top of that, she no longer recognizes her current life. She can’t fathom why she is estranged from her parents (Jessica Lange and Sam Neill), misses her more conservative wardrobe, and doesn’t understand why she would have dropped out of university and a promising career in law. Making matters worse, Paige thinks she's still engaged to charming businessman Jeremy (Scott Speedman), who still wants her, and remains reluctant to embrace Leo, with his less conventional lifestyle making music, as anyone she might have ever loved.

When Paige's memory recovery appears to be a hopeless cause, Leo begins to confront his worst fear—that he's lost the love of his life and his only family. Refusing to give up, he decides to start fresh and court Paige as if they've just met, with the hope that since they fell in love once, they can do it again. It’s a challenge that will test everything he’s ever believed about love, about being true to oneself, and about that sacred part of every marriage ceremony: the vow two people make to each other.

“The Vow” is directed by Michael Sucsy (HBO's “Grey Gardens”) from a screenplay by Abby Kohn, Marc Silverstein and Jason Katims, story by Stuart Sender.

Everybody loves a good romance, but hasn’t every love story been told by this point in the history of cinema?

Spyglass Entertainment Co-Chairman Roger Birnbaum admits he’d grappled with this question for years. Then a news story crossed his desk: “I read an article about a couple who’d been in a car accident and the woman never recovered her memories of the man she loved.” Immediately, the unusual nature of the story spoke to him.

What happened to New Mexico residents Kim Carpenter and his wife Krickitt -- an initially tragic but ultimately uplifting saga of a man and woman who found each other again after a seemingly insurmountable obstacle – touched many lives when it was first reported. The Carpenters would eventually publish a book about their experience in 2000.

Spyglass producer Jonathan Glickman describes what interested them in the Carpenters’ story. “We got excited by the idea of telling a story of a relationship that was inspired by true events that had not yet been seen, but was also relatable to anyone because of the universal themes about the need to adapt to change for any relationship to last.”

Krickitt Carpenter, who has been happily married to Kim now for 18 years even though the period of memory she lost never returned, boils down what happened to them this way: “My husband is amazing. He did everything he could to win me back. Life is full of ups and downs and challenges, but you have to dig down and be the best that you can be.”

Honoring the emotional reality of such an extraordinary incident required coming up with an original story that had the right balance, explains Glickman, “Because the story is so emotional and gripping, we didn’t want to make it a melodrama, but something that could elevate itself to one of those classic love stories like `The Way We Were' or `Love Story.' The script needed to be accessible, with humor and a light touch throughout, so that we don’t take ourselves so seriously.”

“I just thought it sounded like an incredible premise for a film,” says director Michael Sucsy. “The fact that two people are already in love when the movie starts, and then they’re ripped apart, and then they have to find a way back to each other, that really touched me. The thing that hit me the most was the fact that this could happen to anybody at any time. A lot of time when we deal with memory loss, it’s about Alzheimer’s and growing old, but I thought this was a really universal way of being able to relate to the problem.”

Opening across the Philippines in February, “The Vow” is distributed by Columbia Pictures, local office of Sony Pictures Releasing International. Visit www.columbiapictures.com.ph to see the latest trailers, get free downloads and play free movie games.

“THE DESCENDANTS” Wins Major Awards In 2012’s Golden Globes

This movie is heartbreaking and heartwarming at the same time. It deserves all the awards it got at the Golden Globes ...

Press Release:

“The Descendants,” this year’s Golden Globes winner for Best Picture (Drama) and Best Actor (George Clooney) is based on Kaui Hart Hemming’s novel set in Hawaii where outwardly successful businessman Matt King (Clooney) is thrown into crisis when his wife falls into a coma.

Payne, Woodley, and Clooney
As King struggles to be a hands-on parent with his two daughters Scottie (Amara Miller) and Alexandra (Shailene Woodley) and eventually coming to terms with his wife’s deteriorating health, he soon discovers a secret that has given him a new look in life. With his girls in tow, he steps forward to search for unturned stones his wife has left him with. Along the way, in encounters alternately funny, troublesome and transcendent, he realizes he’s finally on course toward rebuilding his life and family.

The winning motion feature is presented by Fox Searchlight Pictures with Ad Hominem Enterprises production directed by Alexander Payne which is also penned by Payne with Nat Faxon and Jim Rash. The ensemble cast includes George Clooney, Shailene Woodley, Beau Bridges, Robert Forster, Judy Greer, Matthew Lillard, Nick Krause, Amara Miller, Mary Birdsong, Rob Huebel and Patricia Hastie.

“The Descendants” is a story that could perhaps be told anywhere, but it has a completely unique setting among the landed upper-classes in Hawaii,” says Alexander Payne. “It’s specific to this place, yet it is also universal. Hawaii is very interesting and not just for its obvious visual and vivid beauty; there’s a distinctive social fabric to life there and that intrigued me,”adds Payne.

The movie sees two masters, both Oscar winners, both at the pinnacle of their game. Funny but also reflective and poignant, this is Alexander Payne’s first film since “Sideways” (2004). And in one of the most interesting roles of his brilliant career, George Clooney plays Matt King, a conflicted and flawed man discovering his own humanity and responsibility in the wake of a tragedy.

In the depths of this crisis, King has to come to terms with the fact that he has been largely inadequate as a father as he attempts to repair his relationship with his two daughters. 17 year-old Alexandra is rebellious and has been sent off to boarding school. 10 year-old Scottie, played by first time actress Amara Miller, is precocious and in need of parental supervision. Compounding Matt King’s grief, there is the added revelation that before her accident his wife had been involved with another man. “Matt is kind of lost, befuddled, disappointed—all the normal things people feel in life, realizing they’ve done the wrong things.” says Payne.

“The film is about the awakening of a man who has been in an indifferent marriage that has gone stale,” adds producer Jim Burke. “It is a wonderful father and daughter story and something completely new for George Clooney. We have never seen him in a film about a relationship between a man and his children.”

“The Descendants” will open on February 15 in theaters from 20th Century Fox to be distributed by Warner Bros.

Award-Winning Film “THE DESCENDANTS” Intros Clooney On Parenting

George Clooney did a really great job in this movie. Watch it soon!

Press Release:

Much recognized for his global humanitarian efforts as he is for his accomplishments in the entertainment industry, George Clooney delves into untapped psyche as he takes on parenting in “The Descendants” with naturally gifted young actresses Shailene Woodley and Amara Miller. Directed by Alexander Payne best known for his work in “Sideways,” “The Descendants” is a man’s tumultuous awakening that might be awkward, comical and sometimes absurd, but nevertheless changes his concept of love, fatherhood and what it truly takes to be a man.

George Clooney stars as Matt King, a privileged Honolulu attorney from a landowning family who is compelled to reevaluate his marriage and life, while his wife lies comatose in a hospital bed following a boating accident. His mischievous daughters don’t trust him, his imperiled wife has been cheating on him and his broke cousins see him and the land trust he controls as a piggy bank. To add insult to injury, he’s surrounded by a lush, fertile, awe-inspiring landscape that defies his inner turmoil.

Hemmings created Matt to reflect a distinct subset of the Hawaiian populace, a generation who trace their births back to the intermarriages of white missionaries and landowners with native Hawaiian royalty and their wealth back to the spoils of the colonial Hawaiian plantation system. As Matt explains, his great-great-grandmother was Princess Margaret Ke’alohilani, one of the last direct descendants of King Kamehameha, who fell in love with her haole (Hawaiian for white or foreign) banker, Edward King, leading to Matt’s current life as a Honolulu lawyer with deep, tangled roots in the islands. Like many Hawaiians, he is a hapa-haole, or half-white, who has never quite come to terms with his cultural identity.

Clooney has established himself as one of today’s leading men, but the chance to play a husband and father in “The Descendants” is a notable departure from his usual roles. This is a man at his lowest point, who has failed to pay attention to the people who matter most: his wife and daughters. Now he is reaping the consequences. But it is also a portrait of a man who is learning and growing. “George is right for the part and he’s a terrific actor,” says Payne about his leading man. “He is a real pro and knows filmmaking inside and out. I couldn’t be more positive about him. He has spent most of his adult life on a film or TV set and he just loves it; that’s where he feels very comfortable and it shows. He is so at home.”

“I think it’s a coming of age film but the guy who’s coming of age is a 50 year old guy. He’s woken up to the fact that all of these betrayals that he feels – from his wife, to his children not really being great kids, to the fact that he has to handle all of these land issues, to the fact that he’s the only adult in terms of his family and his cousin – he’s as responsible as anyone else for being there. Then it comes down to forgiving yourself. That was a big part of the film, watching this quiet man,” Clooney says of his character.

“George has never played a father before,” adds co-producer George Parra. “He's always the powerful, positive, leading guy. This time he has to take care of the kids. He has to feed them and deal with their moods and their crying and their absurdities and he doesn't know how to do that.”

Clooney on the other hand lavishly comments on the screenplay (written by Jim Rash, Nat Faxon and Alexander Payne) and how it helped him prepare to be Matt King. “I wish I could say I got there 10 days beforehand. I wish I could say I hung out with all these descendants. But the truth is the screenplay did everything I needed. I did some research, I met with the people. I did some of that stuff. People work many different ways. I’m that actor that says ‘Today we go to work and this is what we’re gonna do’ and I leave that at the soundstage or the location when I’m done. And I go about the rest of my life. I have an on and off switch. Where the director helps is with the question, ‘At what level do you want this played?’ Because this is a tricky film to pitch. Pieces of it are almost slapstick funny: running down the street trying to have a dorky run, hiding behind a hedge and popping your head up, that kind of stuff. Then there’s stuff that’s very delicate and very careful and finding how to get there quietly, finding how to get there without much, without seeing the machinery working. A good screenplay does that and a good director does that,” Clooney shares.

“The Descendants” opens February 15 in Philippine cinemas from 20th Century Fox to be distributed by Warner Bros.

Shailene Woodley & Amara Miller: Raw Young Talents to Watch for in “THE DESCENDANTS”

This girl is not only very pretty, she can act!

Press Release:

“The Descendants” showcases breakthrough performances from Shailene Woodley and newcomer Amara Miller as the daughters of this year’s Oscar contender for Best Actor, George Clooney.

In the depths of a crisis following a boating accident of Matt King’s (Clooney) wife, King has to come to terms with the fact that he has been largely inadequate as a father as he attempts to repair his relationship with his two daughters. Lack of parental support and stability have left both girls without direction. Alexandra (Shailene Woodley) is rebellious and has been sent off to boarding school. 10 year-old Scottie, played by first time actress Amara Miller, is precocious and in need of parental supervision.

Woodley plays 17-year old Alexandra, troubled daughter of Matt King (Clooney) who has to help her father come to terms with his wife’s coma – and her secrets.

Woodley is best known to US audiences for her performance as Amy Juergens in long-running TV series The Secret Life Of The American Teenager, for which she has received particular praise – including being named ‘Breakthrough of 2008’ by the magazine Entertainment Weekly.

Q: How would you describe your character, Alexandra?
A: I’d say she’s kind of a normal teen going through her angsty period in life and as a child she realized her Mom was going to be more of a best friend than an actual mother. And that her Dad was far removed and would show up for but not really have any communication within the family. So she built walls up and kind of became her own protector. She became very independent at a very young age.

Q: Could you relate to the character?
A: Yeah, of course, I went through my angsty period. I was probably about 14/15 when I hated the world, but that went away quickly and I didn’t really pull from my childhood for this character. For me acting is just about being yourself in the colors and restrictions of a particular character. I try not to pull from my own life or think about it too much. I’d rather just stay present to the situation in which the characters are being forced through.

Q: Is the first challenge of working with George Clooney getting over the fact that he’s George Clooney?
A: I wasn’t really nervous until he walked into the room for the table read in Los Angeles. I started sweating and shaking. Then he came up to me and gave me a big hug and he said “Welcome, Sweetie” and immediately the intimidation factor just disappeared. He’s so great. He’s just George Clooney, a guy from Kentucky with a heart of gold. He’s a spectacular human being on every level.

Q: The scene when you are filmed underwater, after you hear some bad news about your mother, must have been challenging.
A: I loved the underwater scene. I was literally born under water. I learnt to swim at one year old. Water is my personal comfort zone. In Hawaii, girls and guys alike learn to swim before they learn to walk. So I thought it was beautifully written that after hearing such tragic news she recedes into the water and has her moment to be vulnerable for the first time. I thought that was beautiful and then for me, selfishly, it was my own therapy session. I got to go under water and scream.

Q: Shailene is quite an unusual name.
A: Yeah. My Mom found it on a license plate actually. The name Shay was on a license plate in front of her. She was 18 and thought “Shay is cute but that’s a nickname.” So she added Shay-Lene, Shay-Line, Shay-Lin. And she liked Shailene. She didn’t have me until she was 26 but she remembered it for all those years. When I was born my Dad liked it too.

Q: As you’ve been acting for a long time and is new to it, did you find yourself showing Amara the ropes a little bit?
A: Yes I did, and it was so much fun. She was 10 when we filmed so I definitely became the big sister and she was the little sister. It got to the point sometimes when I would say, “Scram! I need my space” and she was always coming from the position of, “Play with me! Play with me!” But, yeah, it was really cool. It was great when you could say, “So, this is how a camera works,” which seems obvious to those that have been on a film set many times but to a 10 year old, she literally thought there were only four people behind the camera. When she got to set and there were 200 people on the stage she thought, “What is going on? This is so bizarre!” But she is a really mature young lady. She’s definitely an old soul in the sense that she didn’t get overwhelmed. We got lucky. She actually can act.

“The Descendants” opens February 15 in Philippine cinemas from 20th Century Fox to be distributed by Warner Bros.
